Hello, I know I'm 3 weeks late but I'm a teenager myself so I thought I could give a little bit more insight into that question. I discovered fountain pens after seeing a teacher use one about two years ago, and asked him about it. I was already into journaling and other stationary stuff, but I wasn't familiar with a fountain pen or how it worked. I think younger people that are interested in fountain pens are mostly going to be those who are like me and already into journaling or just interested in older analog formats. I think social media is definitely still a good way to expose more people to the hobby, but I don't know if it's going to be the way most people my age get into the hobby. Once they are in the hobby though, there's so many videos on KZread and other platforms that it's super easy for someone to find resources about how fountain pens work, how to maintain them, and pretty much everything else one might need to know.

Wonderful video. I got into fountain pens after seeing my physics highschool teacher who used a Parker Vector and have never gone back to ball points since. That was in 2009 but I fell swooped into the rabbit hole when the pandemic began. For 10 years I had one ink and open combo serving faithfully now I have 40 pens and as many inks

@@thedevinluu it was very simple and traditional combo: Parker Frontier with Parker Quink washable Blue. Wrote everything with it in highschool, bachelor's and my master's.

I think if teens are going to get into fountain pens, its going to be those who already like journaling, paper planners, and drawing. Never mind the fact that their lives mostly digital, but cost is going to be a prohibiting factor for many, especially when it comes to getting the right paper. I think the love of analog (polaroids, etc.) is on the rise though. Hopefully it starts gaining more traction with the younger crowds!

I agree with your statement to an extent because there are many inexpensive pens such as the platinum preppy and prefounte. I’m 21 so a bit out of the teen stage but the cost didn’t really stop me. Of course I’m not buying super expensive pens but most of us have pretty expensive phones so a 20-30 dollar pen shouldn’t put too much of a dent in our wallet!

Hi Tyler! Oh, that's a good point - the cost! Fortunately, there are some good quality fountain pens that are a bit more budget friendly and I think that comes back to raising awareness and continuing the conversation. I agree with you, I hope that it we see a rise in love for analog! ☺️❤️🙏

@Julio M Hi Julio! This is a great point as well! It definitely comes down to where we like to spend our money. 😊Same as you, I'm not quite there with the super expensive pens and have sort of settled in the mid range and am really happy with my collection!

This was a fun video format. You nailed the answers to my questions. As for my own answers: 1. Lamy Studio (yet, interestingly, not my favorite), 2. In no particular order: Organic Studios Aldous Huxley, Troublemaker Copper Patina, J. Herbin Kyanite du Népal, Diamine Ancient Copper, Noodlers Turquoise American Eel; 3. 1.1 mm stub.

Thanks for kicking off with my questions. My 'only pen' would be my Kaweco Skyline Sport, with the Medium nib. It's just beautiful to use, and is so small and understated. My Grail pen has been the Pilot Myu 701 for many years, and probably for years to come, as I'm not in a position to buy one.

Hi Devin, Wonderful video! Those questions were real hum dingers. For your EDC I would choose one of your brightly coloured Kawecos [BTW what are the nib sizes in each one?] I think the last ten years have been really interesting FP wise & if YT FP channels might get the youngsters into the FP hobby.

Yes, they were! It was fun and challenging to answer! ☺️✨✒️ My Kawecos are: Rose Gold - EF / White, Blush Pitaya, Light Lavender - M / Mint - F. 😊I hope so! It would be awesome to see a rise in the use of fountain pens especially in such a dominantly digital age. ✨

Literally just a few minutes ago I had the platinum 3776 delivered to me. Will try it as soon as the converter gets here by Friday. In the meantime if you don't have one yet then I suggest you look into the pilot custom 823. That is a gorgeous pen to look at and writes even better. I have the amber brown fine nib and if I had to choose one pen it would be that one

@@thedevinluu I paired my platinum 3776 with Pilot Iroshizuku kon peki and it's a beautiful pairing 😊 the pen is actually light, I thought it would've had more weight to it but it's right for me cuz I like to write at a bit of a fast pace. It's a fine nib, has a good ink flow no issues. I like that it makes a sound on paper when writing if you get me? Even on glossier paper like tomoe I get that asmr sound lol. The pilot custom 823 is a fine nib and I paired it with Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-guri. It's another smooth writer, vacuum filled? I think that's what it's called. I use that mostly on my note taking for studying. Never thought I would use a brown color but after using Yama-guri, I really enjoy the dark brown color of it. Very nice pens and inks so you can't go wrong with those!
