A Father-Son Feud Over a Bel Air with family memories: Secret Chevy | Barn Find Hunter

In this episode of "Barn Find Hunter," Tom uncovers a rare gem: a 1957 Chevy Bel Air with a history of family drama and memories of the owner's Mother. The car used to belong to his father, and the two had a falling out which resulted in the Father ultimately deciding not to pass the Car on to his Son. In an effort to keep the Car in the family, the son turned to his uncle and convinced him to purchase the Car. The son then bought the car from his uncle, ensuring that it would stay in the family and carry on its legacy. Tom's discovery of this unique vehicle is a testament to his expertise and dedication to uncovering the hidden stories behind these forgotten automotive treasures.

Poor guy. Like most of the barn fines on this show, years from now the cars will still be sitting and rotting. Watching this series inspired me to sell ALL of my collector cars and all of my antique motorcycles. You just have to be realistic and realize that your never going to have the money or the capability to fix THE STUFF. Love the show, episodes like this reaffirms my decision.

Yeah, I had the similar experience with going to estate sales. I would see what people collected and saved for and entire life's worth and think, what was it so important to accumulate so much stuff you will never use? Caused me to take inventory of my own stuff and and starting cleaning house, so to speak. And I've definitely seen and been around the old car accumulator guys. It's so easy to find and buy a car. Many thousand times more difficult to actually have the time and resources to restore it. And with every car they buy, there is an unrealized dream. Knew a guy that had a little side gig of "selling people dreams" as he would call it. His house bordered a major state highway. So he would put an old beater out front and everyone would stop-in spurred on by a hope and a dream. And he soon realized the different personalities of people who stop and could tell which car/truck had a shot at actually being restored and which ones had no shot. It was his opinion of all the "dreams" he sold, mostly none of them ever got realized.

Yea can't tell you how many farmers go to auctions and say to themselves "I could fix that up and sell it for more than I bid on it" and then they end up with dozens of old vehicles, and lawnmowers, and boats, and jetski's etc. etc. Just sad seeing stuff rot away with the owner convinced they will fix everything "in the next couple months"

Now being in my 50s and having my two cars for over 25 years, I am hitting the realization that if I don’t get going on these cars (finish one restoration and refresh another), it’s never going to happen. After years and years, they are now becoming a priority! 10 years sure goes by fast, nothing is getting any cheaper, and my energy level is decidedly moving in only one direction!

As frustrating as it is to see beautiful classics rusting away and sometimes never restored, it is the owners to do with what they please. You don’t see U’Haul trailers behind funeral hearses for a reason but it’s the memory tied to the vehicle that they’re often hanging onto so fiercely to the point of not possible. Another great video and human interest story. Life and families are both imperfect and complicated so hats off for quality authentic content.

Actually that's not true. Back in college I had a 1969 Cadillac M+M 42" Combination ambulance/hearse (which was painted red and white, with curtains in the windows and rear quarter glass). This inspired the apartment maintenance man where I lived to purchase a 1975 Cadillac Superior hearse, which he added a trailer hitch to and pulled a U-haul trailer with, on his way to/from arts and crafts shows with his cut and stained-glass materials that he sold. A local church pastor in that town then did a sermon on that, having seen the man quite literally pulling a U-haul trailer with a hearse! This was in the mid-1980s in Kokomo, IN.

Sounds like me, sleeping on the package tray as a kid. I also had a 283, after rebuilding it i started it on the garage floor, sat on the distributor, jumped the starter with a screwdriver at the same time pour gas in the carb, and adjust the timing while it vibrated around the garage floor and fire shot out the carb near my crotch! What a rush, Best time of my life. I put it in a ‘66 Chevelle and had to put an HEI distributor in it because i could get over 8,000 RPM’s out of it and it would float the points. I had a Rochester 4 jet carb jetted out, and a Turbo 350. That car ran so good I beat 351’s and 383’s. Even beat a 396 out of the hole but he took me on the long runs

It belonged to my brother who was tragically killed in a car accident, I bought it from my sister in law. It had a Carter four barrel. Many memories ago. Had a lot of good times in that car.

I have a buddy whose house was a collection of unfinished projects: Kitchen cabinets had no doors and were halfway finished for years, drywall was stacked in the garage for his basement remodel that was started but never got done, fence posts were set for the deck project in the back yard next to a pile of lumber that was starting to rot. I offered to help but he always responded with, “No thanks, I’ll get around to it.” My plan here would be to sell the Coronet, sell the Mercedes 280 SL, sell the Avanti, sell the Honda motorcycle, sell the two cars under tarps in the driveway and use the money to pay for the Chevy and focus on fixing it up.

And then later on, after this vid, his dad either trashes the car or has it stolen.

Thanks, great Overview, & etc.. Interestingly, was somewhat the same ( Projects piled up) with Me: oddly , Surgeries and early Downsizing ( age 69,etc) took care of some things…….Oddly, Cars/ Vehicles seem extra Hoarding /Denial/insanities attributed, than most Work/commitments ( e,g. Pergola, second GRafe)….

There's a 4 door 19 57 Chevy for sale down the street from my house for $12.000 way to much for what it is. If it was a hard top then yeah I would be thinking about it, but since it has a post and rust holes by the back window no way. Someone else could deal with it but a 4 door maybe $8,000 more like worth doing something with it. Starting out 12,000 k in the hole about time you bring it back won't be worth what you put in it.
