A Father Meets Killer Face-2-Face Who Killed His Son

Ойын-сауық

Seven years ago, Shane Harrison and Dillin Pakai were found guilty of murdering 25-year-old Sio Matalasi during a stoush between rival Mongrel Mob members in Wellington. Sio, who had a young son and a new baby on the way, was not a gang member. However, he was friends with several members of the Petone Mongrel Mob chapter who lived in a nearby flat.
He stepped in to try to help his mates and was shot at close range by 18-year-old Pakai. It was 43-year-old Harrison who had ordered Pakai to start shooting during the confrontation.
Matalasi has wanted to meet Harrison since the day he forgave him in court. After seven years, the meeting finally went ahead at Hawke’s Bay Regional Prison early last month.

I myself committed aggravated armed robbery, even though I was sentenced years ago and have been out living my life differently since then there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about the victims in the situation I was in and it tears me apart and once I had children of my own I hurt me even more to realize what I had done and how it's not about me when we all have a right to live in this world peacefully with each other and coexist and there was nothing important in this life that was worth taking somebody else's right to have a freedom or to live their life to the fullest with their loved ones in my opinion, It was very touching to hear this, grieving father forgive the other two boys and years later he's going into put this behind him by confronting the other man and it makes him a wonderful wonderful father grandfather and man, Amen..

Where's the justice for the person killed here ? his life ended without him having any choices about it. Take out this story, which is deeply moving. This is real journalism. In Australia, the Sunday program plays neighbour's warring etc. This is what the world needs.

What an incredible moment between these two people. It is more difficult to forgive than to commit an act of revenge. What an amazing man this is to forgive his son's killer and to greet him with the love that he did. I am sure that this was a turning point for the other man as well, not to take anything away from the fact that he committed this murder but based on his demeanour and his words he seems deeply saddened by his deed. I wish them both well.

I can see a lot of "I wouldn't forgive the killer" comments. Totally missing the bloody point of the video. Did ya'll watch the video on mute. What happened here is teaching us even through the worst possible thing that could ever happen to us and our loved ones. You never know how strong you are. Until being strong is the only damn choice you bloody have. And that includes FORGIVENESS. xx

I agreed that we should forgive other people. But, I disagreed to forgive people that murdered our family member. Honestly, I am very admired with Mr. Matalasi courage to forgive the person who murdered his son. But, if I were him, I wouldn't have no courage to do that. And, I will not accepting for what they did to my son's fate. It is just me and my opinion.

@Jordan Gill again missing the point. I'd rather live in love than hate. I've been raped for 3 years at the age of 7 by my own uncle and I've forgiven even though I wanted him behind bars it's best to let go. Karma plays a big part in life and I choose not to be eaten up by negative situations. Thanks

Humble father, I take my hat off to you for staying humble and having the heart of forgiveness. I am Samoan and have 6 brothers and all family oriented and values. One of my brothers got killed by a Maori man who is rumoured to be a patch member and now my other brothers are filled with rage and want revenge. As their younger sister, It hurts deeply. But I want my brothers to be like this father 😢 as hard it’s said than done but forgiveness will set you free. God bless this father and family.
