The way I've deduced it to be in Qld is: Intern (PGY1) Junior House Officer (PGY2) Senior House Officer (PGY3) Principal House Officer (PGY4+) Registrar (Undertaking Training with a College) Consultant (Specialist Registration and Fellowship with a College) The years beyond Intern aren't a fixed correlation, some PGY2s can find themselves in a PHO position often only outside metro areas and some may spend more than one year in JHO/SHO positions. PHOs and Registrars are in same the bucket really, the principal difference is whether they are undertaking specialist registration e.g. a 4th year PHO in ED could have the same seniority, responsibility and clinical capability as a ED Registrar who is in their 4th year with ACEM training.
