    I agree, I once had one of these albeit more frustrating myself (knight vs rook pawn where I have the knight but still possibly winning) and my opponent flagged to a draw on chess.com.

    The umbrella term company means that it has a separate legal entity from its owners. Therefore a non-profit organization is a type of company. (How I learned it anyway).

    Non profit is not an entity type, it’s a tax designation. Non profit organizations are still set up as corporations or llc, sometimes partnerships

Meaning it doesn’t matter what the owners do with the money (i.e. for profit or give to charity or give back to its customers or refuses all revenue)

    The point is they don't wanna waste time, so that's why they see a "give up" as a win. But they should change the rule to that you lose, because you have yourself to blame for giving up.

    @@AJ-vr9hf it just goes on for 50 moves max, and you can't flag in lichess if you premove everything. You still have a chance to force draw(really small in some cases)

    FIDE : if there is a possible mate = no automatic draw US : arbitrary rule that decides when a player is unlikely enough to make blunders it should be a draw. US as usual inventing stupid arbitrary rules for the sake of being different

    @@Xavier_Dimoff How is it arbitrary though? It comes directly from the 50 move rule. The side with the rook has a suicidal rook and shouldn't really be flagging anyway. If they did they just made a blunder and lost the win just like how patzers stalemate K+Q vs K. The rules shouldn't arbitrarily come in and protect you from one edge case (K+R vs K+N) versus another edge case (K+Q vs K).

    That wasn't about the rule per se, it was over a stipulation that says if a player can't get checkmate, but can if the other player helps him, for example, deliberately moves his king to the corner of the board, it is still considered a potential checkmate, so it is a loss not a draw.

    I think this happened to Alireza in a over the board game, a rapid tournament a few years ago. he wanted to claim a draw after his clock run out, but the fide police gave his opponent a win because checkmate was posible by his opponent only if Alireza helped him puting his king at the corner, which he said he will never do because he is so smart

    @@dogabutila Opponents can theoretically always make any mistake. I'd argue that, if we stipulate that chess played perfectly leads to a draw, ANY checkmate innately requires your opponent "helping"/letting you do in some sense or another

    I was also confused when I lost a game similar to this due to time. I think I had a pawn and the opponent a knight. My logic was that, if the king can't make any moves, then he can be killed by the other piece regardless (imagine white king and rook doesn't move at all and black have infinite moves, he can of course kill the king with the knight). Guess I was wrong.

    In a FIDE tournament this would be a win for white, yes. in USCF tournament that is rated FIDE you would have to check with the organizer before the blitz/classical tournament.

    There is also one more diffrence you can do any numbers of puzzles without even joining any membership and for that you will have to pay but in lichess you can do countless of puzzles for free

    Lichess changed now because I remember it happened to me once in lichess. My opponent was winning with an extra rook against me ( I only had a king) and their time ran out. But it was still a draw.

    Maybe there should be an elo cap for the FIDE rules because most players wouldn’t intentionally block their king to get mated, but if it’s under 1000 elo than anything goes really.

    You don't just get to automatically win there is still a stalemate to consider. You have to win in the allotted time not just get close.

    Guys lichess is non profit.I am surprised that it still survives because if you have seen lichess spends 40k euros per month for the servers.I hope it lasts forever
