A Diff Comparison - Which is Best for You?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

There are many different aftermarket differentials available for cars and knowing which one is right for your build can be tricky. In this video I break down how differentials work, discuss the different types of differential designs, and help you choose which one is right for your build. I discuss the operation of open diffs, welded diffs, clutch type (positrac) diffs, viscious diffs, and ATB differentials.

    even though you have haven't posted in while , I still refer to all your videos for my Z. You did such a great job on your supercharger video that I went with a Top Guns SC vs turbo . Thank you for doing a great job with your ''play by play'' !!!

    I installed an OS Giken clutch discs differential with good results. as long as you run the 80 -250w oil its almost never clutch pops, except on tight corners under hard acceleration. Yes the oil is expensive special OS Giken 100.00 per liter, oil changes every 15,000 miles after initial breakin change at 500 miles. Gave my 370z a much improved stance and traction control especially through the corners. More clutch disc make engagement smoother than other disc type LSD units. Price a little more expensive, 1200.00 buys you Japanese engineered unit that quiet and works.

    I was actually already looking at the wavetrac lsd because of how loud and twitchy the clutch differentials are in parking lots. Especially after I had watched how bad yours was. Lol Love your videos.

    Can you use the wavetrac diff on a automatic Z? It says manuals only on Z1. Thanks for this video, it explained a lot of things.

    Atb doesnt 'lock'. It bias torque to wheel with most grip which is the outside wheel when cornering

    What was the break-in procedure for the ATB diff?

  • @thecarizon504

    @thecarizon504

    Quaife doesn't provide a break in procedure. I would just change the oil afyer 1000 miles to get ride of the shavings.

    Not too bad. If you watch muly diff install video, I explain how I was able to just seat the bearings a bit more to avoid having toinvest in a ton of shims.

    Can you leave a link to the wavetrac diff, I would like to purchase one. I have a 40th anniversary edition, sport touring, manual 370z. I assume the wavetrac diff would be a good upgrade over stock.
