Thanks for another very helpful video! Only one question that appeared to me during watching is what is the difference between the index and the collective card (-1000)? Or what goes into the collective card that does not go to the index? Or is it doubled?

Great question. I like to think of the -1000 cards as Section Colletives. Basically at the beginning of a big section, it's a way to easily access and work with the table of contents for the section _without_ having to constantly have the Index Box in front of you. Those -1000 cards actually at one point lived in the Index under "Zettelkasten" but I moved them to 4214/-1000 after learning how Luhmann used Section Collectives. I found them easier to access at the beginning of the 4214 section. That's all. Preference really. Try both. For _big_ sections that serve as your primary focus, I recommend a Sectional Collective.

Late to the guessing game here. I actually thought the tune you were singing was from the original Battlestar Galactica. With your analogue system, linking that thought to the reboot of BSG - where not being connected to everything else saved them. Will your Antinet be your salvation when the grid goes down?

Hello Scott. Can you please share with me the brands and models of pens you use. I like the look of the two in this video. I prefer ballpoints because the dryness of the ink suits my handwriting and I prefer a gray tone black ink or gray brown. I use Caran D’Ache wit their Goliath medium black ink which can be used on their 849 model pens but also on the one I used: Ecridor lights or sunlights in gold tone. I have tried so many pens and I always go back to the ballpoint pens from Caran D’Ache and Cartier. CD black ink is preferable became it is a bit lighter in shade but both pens can use the same cartridges and I think Cartier uses them in Geneva for their writing instruments. I damson have some fountain pens but they aren’t practical if you want to write fast. And I am trying to find one with an extra fine nib that isn’t scratchy. I am sure you have experimented too and I would appreciate any recommendations you may have. I don’t use your system despite the fact that it might be more useful than mine. I just use notebooks for different subjects with a table of contents at the beginning and index at the end. But I do have header, footer summary, margins on almost each page. I am sure you can find information faster but with my notebooks I review things within a bigger context and that seems to remind me of what I had written because my dumb brain gets more sluggish with time. I like your office in downtown SD and I am thinking about having a small office within a walking distance of my place which is in uptown Dallas. Take care buddy

@@scottscheper Thank you. MontBlanc pens are fantastic. I should go check out the non fountain ones they have. I wonder if having maybe the Kraft cover field notes notebooks in sets of 13-48-96 and so on could create a system that is similar to yours. I haven’t bought your book but will do soon.

12:32 ... if an author does not footnote items when necessary he runs the risk of being labeled a plagiarizer. without a footnote the world assumes an idea is the authors. one must footnote. it's not optional.
