Thank you for this. I visited Mackinac Island some years ago and regrettably, was not aware of the battle which took place. One day I will have to return. By the way, the rank of lieutenant or in this case, lieutenant colonel, is actually pronounced "left tenant" rahter than "loo tenant" in the British army.
Who would have figured that one of the first of the countless islands stormed by the United States Marine Corps was MACKINAC ISLAND?

I had family on the island then Native American great grama x6 and French grandfather x6 Grand x 5 had two sons on 1832 and 1834
