    Back in the 70s I got a used turntable, it did not play well at all, so I took it in to a shop in Seattle, and the guy was showing me what he had to do to set it up right. I was surprised at that time he had a test record also and an Oscilloscope. I did not know there was that much to set up a turntable, I think it cost me about $40, a lot of money back then. But I bet it's about $200 or more now. Prob a lot more. I wish I had my old Hi Fi stuff now ... I traded it all for a Harley.

    Fernando, I saw that you showed the Fozgometer but didn't use it in your setup. Curious as to why not. My ProJect Classic has been great and nice to see so many similarities between mine and this new model. I really wish I could do the speed changes with the little buttons which mine does not allow. Also discovered that my dustcover was picking up low frequency energy in my room (even when closed) so have to remove it every time I'm playing vinyl.

    Grammes are a unit of mass, Newtons are a unit of force (specifically weight in this case). The relationship between the two varies because of changes in gravity, due to where you are on the planet. Scales measure weight, even if they give readings in units of mass.

    Nice video, I have a 2 xperience classic that I bought over 10 years ago and is still running strong. I see the biggest upgrade they made since then is on the back of the tonearm. The best thing about pro ject is if a part does go bad you can find almost every part, from the platter, the belts, bearings, whatever on the internet..

    I suspect the thinner larger belt is for 45 and 78rpm using the lower larger part of the motor pulley (so it requires a belt change to run 45 rpm and it is electronically adjusted to 78rpm. The use of a larger belt also means the 33rpm belt is not over stretched on the lower larger dia section of the pulley.

    Pro-Ject stuff varies wildly, I've had the RPM's and they are more like MDF toys rather than a serious piece of HiFi, at the other end of the spectrum we have the Evo series, a totally different story...and above that we have EAT turntables (Pro Ject and EAT are related). p.s No need for spindle bearing oil?

  • @johnhpalmer6098

    @johnhpalmer6098

    A lot of tables these days come with the spindle bearing oiled so no need to deal with it. VPI does not, and has you putting a drop in and note when you did and once a year, put a fresh drop in the spindle bearing. I have the Rega P6 and it came pre-oiled and ready to go, except for the platter, adding the cartridge as I didn't buy mine with a cart as I already had a decent one. All I had to do was remove the insert that raided up the sub platter just enough to not rest on the bottom of the bearing well during shipment, install the cartridge, and plug in the Neo power supply and it was more or less ready, oh, as this table, the counter weight had to be installed.

    The Technics stuff is so badly overrated. My olde Pioneer PL51 direct drive of 40years is better put together than the £4000 GAE ltd edition. The new Technics are often warped in the platter and have crappy arm lifts. Belt drives and suspended ones are alot vetter sounding... they can loosen up and boogie for one thing! I still use the Pioneer for some dance music genres where it excels but for 80% of my listening the Thorens and Projects satisfy me alot more

( highpoint of HiFi to me, at least visual and maybe technical as well )) & compare (actual tech tests) to my 2 year old. thorens TD103a which has VERY classic look, the tonearm looks near exact like the Dual ULM (low mass ) arm.....minor point - my Thorens also has small cutouts in the back for the cables. absurd way to irritate users, very little clearance. and, comment on short tiny wires for the back of Cartridge - I'm 73 couldn't do the thorens wires even thou they look fine, maybe the Ortofon cart uses non standard plug connects .?? > previous I used a '78 Pioneer full auto for 4 decades, still working fine actually. all the doodads like suspended chassis... I have the same turntable that came with the Ortofon Red MC cartridge. I also purchased a matching Pro-ject phono box DS2 USB. Right from the first set up I noticed a slight but perceptible hum. The hum was mitigated by moving a my modem/router away from the phono amp. I couldn’t remove the hum completely so I decided to purchase a EAT linear power supply. This particular unit has two linear power supplys in it which allows me to replace both PSUs for the EVO and DS2 phono amp. I did a little research and found out that the maker/engineer of EAT also makes high end turntables and just happens to be the wife of the owner of Pro-ject. The products are also a perfect marriage as the hum is completely gone. In fact, I can place my modem/router on top of the phono amp and there is absolutely gone. So if your customers want to eliminate some crappy PSUs look into a EAT Linear power supply. www.europeanaudioteam.com/en/eat-lps-linear-power-supply-wp000037.html
