    Amazing! Legend like 1200 deserves a special version in bling. I would def modify IEC mains power socket and interconnect outlet to fit some quality cables.

    I saw 2 of these gold Technics tables at a Guitar center. They were there after a famous DJ played in Tijuana,MX and demanded these two new tables to do his set. $4k for both. I should have jumped on that opportunity.

    Isn't it actually "we put a $17.5K cartridge on a $25 piece of plastic"? Interesting that the actual medium: viny,l is still just plain old boring vinyl. If only someone found a way to improve on printing rapidly deteriorating, environmentally sensitive analogue grooves on cheap plastic... (Reminds me allegorically of Sunday Mass at the Cathedral. The most expensive gold, silver and precious stones all for the sake of a 2c piece of dry bread. Of course, it's the _transubstantiated substance_ that counts, but how do you ever put a dollar value on that?)

    Nakamichi is a small, niche company, many of its heads were hand made - meaning low quality, low reliability - open coil heads, broken motor, and many other things. As a result, it became bankrupted after a short period.

    For what Technics charged for them, If I had one, it would run VERY NEARLY 365! All that glam would be working its xss off, transferring all the precious vinyl to tape, and MD!

    Wonderful. One question... How do you capture the audio in the video? Is it with a professional and/or special microphone? And when uploading the video to KZread, what specification and/or resolution is the audio configured in? Do you upload the audio to KZread in “Wave” or in “FLAC”?

  • @VendendoNaInternetAgora
    @VendendoNaInternetAgora10 сағат бұрын

    A question... When I'm listening to a song on KZread, how can I identify whether that song is a lossless audio file or a lossy audio file? Where can I see the specifications of the audio being played to know if it is, for example: a “WAVE” or “FLAC” format (without loss of quality) or if it is an “MP3” file (where there was compression and loss of quality)? Is there an extension for the Chrome browser that shows in real time the specifications of the audio being played? I visited KZread's audio file guidelines and it says the following... “[...] Supported file formats: (1) MP3 audio in MP3/WAV container, (2) PCM audio in WAV container, (3) AAC audio in MOV container, and (4) FLAC audio. Minimum audio bit rate for lossy formats: 64 kbps. Minimum audible duration: 33 seconds, excluding silence and background noise. Maximum duration: none “[...]”. Therefore, KZread accepts both lossless audio files and lossy audio files.

    Platter is actually sprayed with a transparent gold lacquer. M5G also had OFC wiring as did MK6. Ironic that the new models went back to tin plated copper except 1000R. The lateral weight idea was lifted from Vestax and is simply a spring loaded graphite bar that introduces a "controlled' friction to reduce the lateral response of the arm for stable scratching. For us audiophiles, this should not be engaged.

    This one is for the music man who likes bling over genuine audiophile, hifidelity pursuit - In that regard the SP10-MKll / MK3 and current SL-1000R are top draw and class 💫

    This gold color is actual gold plating, which is so much better than the fake gold on the 1200M7L tonearms... but still way too blingy IMO (I've had one for a short time). IMO, the brushed matte aluminium of the 1200G is way more stylish. Fun fact: that knurled knob on the side is exclusive to this GLD and M5G (same for the illuminated digital pitch control with 8/16% range). The knob on the side is basically a plunger, a teflon pin with a spring behind it. For those who are into archery sports: that plunger is much like the plunger on a recurved/compound bow. By turning it clockwise you screw it in and that pin pushes against the horisontal axis/bracket to provide resistance. It's a bad way to provide horizontal damping, since it's friction based instead of the fluid dampers that are based on drag (dynamic friction). You should always rotate it half a turn anti-clockwise in order to disengage it. It obstructs the free movement of the arm! For heavy scratching it reduced the chances of a skippng arm, but in an hifi setup you don't want this at all... Oh and btw, have you noticed the behaviour of the tonearm lift on this one? It feels a lot like the tonearm lift on the 1200G, but nothing like the tonearm lift on the 1200GR/GR2... That's because the 1200G uses an exact replica of the lift damping mechanism inside of this one and all the other 1200MK2 - 1200MK6 legacy decks!

  • @SkyFiAudio
    @SkyFiAudio12 сағат бұрын

    Wow, thanks for this plethora of great information. I understand what the knob does now, and see how a fluid dampened system would be preferable. I did notice how good the lifter is on this model, wow.

    @@SkyFiAudio You're welcome. I've serviced and modded a few 1200 variants in the past, so I've actually seen the insides of the legacy 1200s a few times over. Also opened up my current 1200G and 1200M7L to do some mods not too long ago. Opening things up helps a lot in understanding devices, especially things that are more mechanical by nature.

    Thanks for posting this thoughtful video. I am thinking about stepping up to a McIntosh MA9500 Integrated Amplifier. It features an 8-band EQ/Tone Control built-in module. I like that feature. Does anybody have an idea about how this built-in MA9500 tone control module, compares with the McIntosh dedicated EQ that was reviewed here? Thanks, David-

    The best way to do this is record a track with the expensive cartridge and then record a track with a cheaper cartridge - put the files together and then do a subtraction - i bet there is not much difference, probably none.

    The 1978 SL1301 moved the strobe & dots underneath the platter, with a small, flush window & mirror if you really want to see the stobe/dots in action. This was perfect solution IMO for an audiophile turntable. The aesthetic was smooth (like current SL1500C).

    Very cool. My how these have evolved. I had the very basic Technics SL-D1 back in the late 70s. Full manual. Was something like $120 new, which as a kid, was the most I could afford. But it beat my previous Garrard TT on all fronts. Loved that SL-D1. Gave it to a friend who still uses it and is going strong. I hope to order a 1200G in the coming months.

    Nobody can seem to answer the question what speakers do you need to listen Is through to justify the sound being worth $17500 just for the cartridge alone. Everybody says you're using the wrong speakers when they don't even know what speakers or even if I'm using speakers but nobody can answer the question people love to talk in judge but don't have the answers.

    I can't really evaluate the equipment. I like the TT. I have an original unmodified LP12 with an Ortofon OM10.The album was impeccably recorded but to me overly smooth. Musically, now, after a few minutes, I can't recall any of it. Very lounge. I'd suggest that the works of the cartridge would work just as well in another well engineered body, at a fraction of the cost.

    I hear the hiss and the static noise of the disc , this is crazy, if the mastering of the album was digital, the background noise of the disc should be very small, but maybe it came from an analog tape source... Maybe the disc must be discharged with an anti static gun, it help prevent pop and clic especialy if the stylus and the coil of the cartridge are sensible to that, you can get descent performance with a cartridge arround 100 to 600 dollars but beyond , the turntable must reach the same standard of luxury, but it's nothing than a handmade piece of art for audio Gear freak, i mean come on for the same amont of cash you get a professional Neumann VMS master cutting lathe machine wich is the standard tool use for making the master laquer of the disc itself !
