This game is such a masterpiece. I also REALLY recommend Fumito Ueda's other two games, Ico and The Last Guardian. Both of which are also beautiful masterpieces with Shadow Of The Colossus.

Honestly, this video has made me want to buy and play shadow of the colossus. It’s so well edited while also feeling like your friend explaining something to you rather than some guy explaining something to you. Very well done!

Man, games have evolved so much since the original was released, so even the remake won't blow your mind as much as the original did. I mean, back then these were the biggest bosses in history, so even the first one made my jaw drop (now we have God Of War, Horizon and many more with much larger bosses so it won't be that impressive); the controls back then were just different but "didn't suck" the controls were not as standardized how they are today, so that wasn't really a flaw; the map was massive, the largest map most people knew was San Andreas, so for the year this one was also mind blowing; the scale of the game was again, mind blowing, no game had that kind of scale. Just the fact of climbing up the castle and jumping off from the top felt incredible, I remember jumping off the cliffs just to see how many seconds it would take to get the bottom and die; the graphics, the size of the colossus and the way the moved were some of the best things seen in gaming, sure, there were games with better graphics but they were not even close to the scale of SOTC. Oh and back in 2005 fast travel I believe it wasn't even a thing, so we didn't even think about it. I'm sure there are many more things I forgot to mention, but I just wanted to point out how impressive the game was back then. After so many years no other game has blown my mind like when I first saw the size of some of the Colossi (13th to be exact).

I would say that the negative impressions regarding the gameplay are because the game is still the same as it was in 2005 with better graphics. The game's controls were rigid in 2005, but we've had so many innovations and improvements in the meantime, that yes, the game feels strange and outdated like Shenmue 3. The story is somewhat similar, different people have different tastes, but in 2005 it was something new and different, but now we have easy access to dozens of experiences that emulate and improve aspects of the game. I liked seeing your perspective from the game, keep on keeping on

that's true! I did know about its release but didn't think much of it when writing the review or even thinking about why I had those impressions. it's very good context that's good to keep in mind and to talk about, especially in a review like this. thinking about it, older games are almost always off-putting to me for this reason and take some getting used to, so I probably should have known it would come with the territory

That would have been a good idea if the prayer shrines could have acted as fast travel points once you prayed at them. Having said that I don't mind continually traversing the landscape. In addition to the trophies & time attack items, there's also 154 gallery pics to unlock & 79 gold coins scattered around the map to collect. Now that SONY owns Bluepoint Games perhaps we'll get a Definitive Edition of S.O.T.C. to celebrate the 20th anniversary next year. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Nice review/discussion.

oh hey, great to see you here! I absolutely love all the exploration and research showcases you make on this game, I find it fascinating that even after all this time there’s still more to discover, and there are still people dedicated to doing that I’ve since heard about the gold coins, I found a couple of them during my time with the game but didn’t actually know what they were until much later. the whole story regarding their addition is super cool! and I would absolutely love a definitive edition of SOTC, I wouldn’t say this about many games but I’d buy that day one no question. thank you for the kind words

Pro strats just MASH □ lol Wander will start his swing on the first frame possible and will give you a grace frame to stop mashing so he loads up a full swing

I dont know if its still the same as the original on PS2 but you could actually climb the tower where you start and reach a secret garden. That was the main reason why i hunted all those lizards and fruits as a kid.

that is in the remake as well, it’s really cool, and I did that as well. that’s where the footage at 12:40 is from. if you go the left after all the climbing, you’ll reach the garden. if you go to the right, you can get on top of the big bridge and reach the entrance/exit to the island. your stamina doesn’t need to be fully maxed for it, but it still needs to be pretty damn high

It's still there but you can't reach it as easily now, it takes about 8 playthroughs to get enough stamina and be able to climb there

LMAO, I know these first few uploads have been all over the place. I'm hoping the more I upload, the more of an identity this channel will have, with the continuation of the disgaea guides, regular reviews of whatever I'm playing (like this one), and whatever else I wanna sprinkle in

Your forced to walk or use Agro and no fast travel because your supposed to explore the beautiful world not just slash through it lol

Reviewing this game only from "the gamer's" perspective, kinda makes you not understand that, just because You think something should be in a game, (from a gamer's perspective), does not mean that the desired feature should be there, just because it's present in other games. even when you kinda "understood" why the controllers are cluncky or the lack of fast travel. It does not feel genuine. It felt like you wanted to critizice for the sake of critizice. the controllers are cluncky because Wander is no one. He is no warior or skilled fighter, he's just a dude with a sword who does not know how to propoerly use it, and with such inexperience that he can barely control the horse. and that is what the game is suposed to feel. And that feeling is even more heavy on the PS2/PS3 versions, without the smooth 60fps, and with framedrops that kinda delivered a heavy sensation of dizzyness when receivin or closely dodging an attack. Fast travel? why.. seriouly why?, Yeah, the map is big I get it, but the exploration and the sensation of how big are the distances compared to you as a human in a Place made for literal Giants is a big part of the game. Adding the features you mentioned would only make this game easy, lazy, meaningless since it would sustract any sensation of "realism", making it more "videogamy" I would advice a more centered approach on future videos (without expectations that could taint your review or analisys), because in this one it felt like you missed the point of it. And sorry for the broken english, It's not my mother language

I see where you’re coming from. I acknowledged in another reply that I definitely should have taken the game’s age into account when criticizing its controls, that was an oversight on my part. however, I state in the video that I figured they were going for a clunky feel because of Wander’s inexperience in combat, and that the idea is cool, but that doesn’t make it fun to play. I stated that it would have been nice to show his inexperience through gameplay without just making it genuinely unfun. there’s a balance to be had there that I don’t think they struck all too well, and it took a lot of getting used to. as for the fast travel, I understand that you’re supposed to explore the world. that’s why I explicitly stated that it should be a New Game+ feature rather than something you start off with right away. the game expects you to play through it a ton of times, both for extra content and to max out your stats, and going through the world that many times with little to actually do gets very tedious. that’s what my point was. if you still find enjoyment traveling across the land and don’t want to use fast travel, you don’t need to use it. I did genuinely like exploring in my first playthrough, and I 100% agree that the point of the game would be missed if it didn’t have you do that. I do understand I largely talked about this from “the gamer’s” perspective, and I’ll be making efforts in future videos to not be so laser focused and really understand the full context (development, history, etc). and of course, not everyone’s views and opinions are going to be the same. I appreciate the feedback

@@MagsIsGaming Regarding the controls... I wouldn't call them unfun, but Challenging, giving you "The Feel" Y'know. and regarding the fast travel being a New Game plus feature, I apologize since I missed that phrase entirely. And I Agee with you in that matter. Fast travel In a NG+ would be a good addition to the game. Cheers and good luck on future videos.

Great-game!!! Sometimes when I want to unwind & relax, I hop onto Agro and just ride around. I could do that for hours……the scenery is just so beautiful.
