I raised 27 chickens for my brother's farm in my garage up until their first 6 weeks. I didn't want them to imprint on me so I didn't touch them for the first month. The buffs at week 5 were by far the most willing to take chances getting to know me. They were the first to fly from on top of their waterer up to the edge of their cardboard enclosure and let me walk around with them in my hands. Sweet birds. They all go crazy for cucumbers.

As a Buff Orpington lover as well, I truly appreciate you sharing your beautiful birds with us. I love the idea of wetting small amounts of feed to make an oatmeal consistency. I will give it a try with my next batch of chicks and see how they like it. It would be really nice if it reduces the amount of feed wasted. Thank you so much!

looks like you put a lot of love and effort into them. for as many as you have the space does look a little on the small side if i'm being honest. we have 4 ladies and our permit requires we have a minimum of 5 square feet per bird in the run plus an additional 4 square feet in the coop. our enclosure is 96 square feet total and still is too small for them (it feels) to be locked in all day. i let them free range for 1.5 hours at the end of the day so they can be supervised while I sit outside with the dogs. we sit on almost a 1/2 acre and they love it. their quality of life at the end of the day is still better than those of the birds who are on large production farms, but still we have to just do the best we can to do what's right. i wish you all the best.

You stole my birds!! hahaha Mine are getting a little stir crazy being locked up for the past couple of days with rain. Their run looks like a bombing run hit it with all the holes they've dug. The property is blessed with redworms and they love the baby worms that come up when it rains.

We are wanting to get some Orpingtons too, and yours are absolutely beautiful and super quiet! I have been doing a lot of research, and seems Orpingtons are one of the easiest and friendliest to take care of, and also the most quiet. I watched another lady's video, and her Buff Orpington's were quite noisy! Had me wondering if we shouldn't get any at all. We don't have a lot of room here, but we do have more than you have. I think your space is great for your chickens, and they seem very healthy and happy! I love how you've done everything! I just worry our neighbors will complain if we end up getting some. The neighbor right behind us, has her fence about 15' from where we would keep them. It would not be good if they were noisy and bothersome for her or other neighbors. We'd probably get in trouble with the city and have to get rid of them. Our neighborhood is SUPER quiet, so, I'm afraid the chickens will be heard. I read quail are really quiet, much quieter than chickens, so now considering those. Also, some of these people are so rude. Completely unnecessary! Ignore them.

Not if they’re fed enough on a regular basis. If they eat too eagerly when you bring them food, they’re not getting enough throughout the day. Chickens are designed to eat all day long.

They look decent but they need much more animal protein. Chickens are naturally omnivores and they love to hunt and forage for bugs, worms, lizards, mice etc. if you incorporated more of those items into their diet, you’d get eggs with deep orange yolks.
