People today, I dont think, realize that becoming a monk in these times was a privilege. It was a sparse monastic life, but they were educated, fed and housed. This was, at that time, when these "luxuries" were sparse. But it was better that than being a serf. Life was tough back then. Many monks didn't give a shit about their religion, they wanted a better life and move to up the ladder so to speak. Just look at some of the popes that were horrible People. They wanted power and wealth.

I'm mostly not very charmed of surreptitious advertising. When it begins, I always feel scammed. In return, most of the times I end up unsubbing the channel or not subbing at all. Because I'm highly allergic to advertisements. Especially when you can't seem to get rid of it without paying for it. Like a constant blackmail. Then you try another video, and another and another, but no, you can't start any video without having to watch yet another advertisement for something that you'll never use. Advertisement is ALWAYS meant to cheat your money. Advertisement is always a scam.

So necromancy and joining the clergy in the medieval ages is not actually that contradictory, in fact most necromancers were actually clerics! This is because most necromancy and demon summoning at the time called upon the power of god, Jesus, the angels, and the saints to bind and compel a demon to do your bidding rather than actually making a pact with these beings. So this allowed the magical practitioner to still rationalize this activity with leading a good christian life (or not in this case).

When you use the word " magic " in the context of this time it was indistinguishable from science. Esoteric knowledge about things like necromancy, alchemy, astrology weren't thought of in the same way as we view magic today. Christian mysticism was popular along with the Sufi in Islam and Kabbala in Judaism.

Interesting story. Your pictures of ships look like Spanish galleons of the renaissance. Not medieval sailing ships.

Just be sure you don't have an IPv6. NordVPN doesn't support it. I should have checked.
