I am now 73. I started welding in 1970. My gift to you is two fold. My first gift is to find another skill trade other than welding. You can not totally protect your retina from the radium radiation from TIG welding. When you get old, and when it is dark, you will ALWAYS have a dark haze in the center of you field of vision at night. The only thing you can do to limit this is number two of this gift. USE YOUR PERIPHERAL VISION AS YOUR GUIDE ........look ahead of your weld pool, not directly at the arc. This will take a ton of practice and patience. If you think you are so good, and retina failure will not happen to you, you are a fool. Your FIRST JOB is to protect your eyes FIRST.

@@TheHalokid24 you are welcome. I can’t see shit at night. Sometimes when I wake up to piss, I see spider like images before me. They flat scare the piss out of me......seriously. Use welding as a step stone to better things, like, coworkers with painted fingernails and smell better than that fat old guy you have to put up with.

You started welding at 1970 bruv are you daft. Think of the fucking evolution and steps both welding and the protection for said welders eyes have grown! 100% what you said makes a point but you have no idea what today’s technology is doing! Granted if you don’t use it you’ll lose it but good on ya

Thank you. I will keep this in mind what you have said while I peruse a new skill in welding, as I have often found in life that your peripheral vision is just as valuable as direct sight.

Lucky buggers don't have any OSHA types hanging around making you have to wear all sorts of safety gear! But you see, when you have socialized Healthcare you can get all the chemo therapy and surgeries for melanoma you want for free! What a country!
