A Day In The Life Of A Pro Cyclist with AG2R La Mondiale

Спорт

What happens in a typical day in the life of a Professional Cyclist? How much do they train? What do they do when they train? What do they eat? When do they eat it? Seeing the pros racing throughout the season certainly looks tough but what goes on behind the scenes to get them to that point? Mavic invited Ollie out to Spain to join Team AG2R La Mondiale and spend a day looking into the life of a Pro Cyclist.

Realistically, a rider like Oli would tear the legs off most of us casual GCN viewers. To watch him getting flogged by the pros really makes it clear just how wide the gulf is between a talented dedicated fit amateur, and a true pro athlete. 160km/4000m and they looked so casual at the rest stop, whereas most of us would be gasping and calling for an ambulance!!! Pro cycling is a brutal sport.

There's different levels to this stuff..the average person who may not cycle has no idea how strong a pro cyclist is. Maybe not win any wrestling matches but put them on a bike and its another level.

@@mikicastan I dont think it's just watts. I mean think how much you have to accelerate to close a gap? That's why the majority people get dropped on there first race regardless of there fitness level. They dont train realistically what a race would be like.

This probably extends to any sport. I think it's easy to watch and comment on the performance of a or b pro but I guess the reference point is implicitly relative to the pro distribution. It certainly is a bit arrogant to think an amateur even with a lot of training can match even the lower percentiles in pro performance.

I rode up to the Col du Sabot in late June 2019, on a very hot day (it was 37 degrees at the col!), and this team rode past me like I was standing still :) That must have been one very hot, sweaty training ride for them.

Such an awesome and insightful video. I would love to do something like that, although I would have been dropped way earlier.

Ollie is without a doubt the best GCN presenter

Pro training is brutal. They often go harder than they would do in actual racing, when strategy and tactics in the actual race matters. Especially those riding for the GC don't often go all out at all in the fear of blowing up the next day.

As I'm typing that at 3:38. I'd 10 second into the serious training after leaving the car park. Assuming Ollie can keep up with the team in the car park.

It's almost 4am and GCN is what keeps me awake xD. Literally needed to be asleep over 2 hours ago
