A Day in the Life of a Business Analyst

This is a day in my life as a business analyst at a company called, Odoo. But I've made a big career change into UX design. Specifically I started my UX design business! So if you're interested in that, you should stick around!

I’d love to hear more about the overlap between business analysis and UX design based on your experience. As an analytics undergrad, I’m now finding out how things like KPIs and market research are vital in both fields, but I’d love to hear more personal experience from you to shed some light on how a business analyst and UX designer may use the same tools like KPIs differently

I recently graduated with a degree in Business Economics of August this year and looking to get into a career as a Business Analyst. The day-to-day expectations, the mindset and work environment that surrounds this career seem like it would be a perfect fit for my personality and I was wondering how I can put myself into the position where I can apply for an entry-level position as a Business Analyst. Is there any sort of advice that you could offer to me when I'm starting out?

Selyan Makhlouf it depends on the educational program of the school you go to. But generally computer science or business analytics can give you a great foundation for BAs. However, I’ve seen other BAs with psychology degrees as well. I think it just comes down to how you sell yourself during the interview and what projects/internships you have on your resume.

Many traditional Business Analysts seem to either use more data in their work (analytics, presentations, etc) or are that true liaison between CS and the business. I haven’t heard them often being quite as client facing as it sounds you are, hence me thinking your role is quite similar to a CSM at an SaaS company. Do you have CSMs at your org? They pay around the same. And the require a similar skill set. Data analyst are more technical. If you’re great with numbers, try data analyst. If you love business and talking to people, try business analyst.

So you used to go to company's/confer with them after they bought your company's software and told them how to use it etc? I thought a business analyst created a personal system for each and every client to suit their needs, not implement the tried and true systems out there. Hey it is easier if it's a well known system foundation already which makes being a business analyst more appealing to me for a possible career path.

This is so fucked up, cause my college is like one of the top tier colleges in the country and hardly does any such analytics company visit the campus for internships. They do come for job placements, but for the time being an internship is also a necessity. My point in saying all of this is, when you've a software engineering degree and tryna change your path, it takes a lot of guts and determination. Anyways, hope you get the job.
