I don't want to be rude, but if you do not already know & fully understand the rules of bear safety, DO NOT GO BACKPACKING YET! A lot of backpacking videos avoid certain topics, because this is not a beginner activity, day hiking a developed path is. Before you spend a day or a night in the wild, as a car camper even, you must know your safety rules & techniques. Good news, lots of hiking KZreadrs have created such content. I think the bulk of the backpacking community already knows those things, as you learn most safety protocols when you take up day hiking or as you grow up. I also have a feeling REI has legal concerns about posting bear safety techniques other than how to use bear spray, since unfortunately, most other safety maneuvers are hit or miss. Prevention (store all your smelly stuff - food or other products with any scent - SECURELY) is a strong message in her videos for a reason. Good luck to those of you just getting started - you've got a really beautiful life of adventure ahead!

Hey Miranda! I’d love to see you planning a trip from start to finish. Like planning the list of things you need, to purchasing the new gear, to planning the shuttle if needed, to seeking places to camp on a backpacking trail,to picking up passes, and just tips in general along the way, it’s all rather complicated! Lol

That tick brought out Miranda's dark side! I get it though. I remember (at my first Boy Scout Jamboree many years ago) seeing tortoises around the lake that were badly infested with them. Some of the ticks were several inches across they were so bloated. YUCK. You keep fighting the good anti-tick fight, Miranda!!

I have NEVER actually watched a Facebook ad, nor do I like camping/hiking, but once yours started playing I just found it so interesting and entertaining. So much so that I searched to see if you had your own channel. Now I look forward to watching more outdoorsy doings from the comfort of my favorite reading chair. 😊 I'll also be sharing this with my kids, all adults, who absolutely love the outdoors. Middle and his girlfriend son are currently camping and hiking in Yellowstone.

I have that exact same pillow, a pillow trick I read was to slip a t-shirt over the top of your air mattress, and put the pillow in there to keep it in place while you sleep, I haven't tried it yet but seems like a good tip.

Because I’m a procrastinator when it comes to getting out of camp there are a couple of habits I stick to. Before I get out of the tent in the morning ( no matter how bad I have to pee) I pack up everything in the tent. Then I pack up the tent while I’m heating water for coffee. By the time I eat breakfast I’m 90% packed. It really helps me get out of camp quicker.

I also hike with my dog. He loves it. One thing I have learned while hiking with my dog is that his claws can poke holes in both the bottom of the tent and the inflatable sleeping pad. This can make for a long uncomfortable nights. My daughter came up with a great idea for preventing this from happening. She suggested I put booties on my dog every night before we go into the tent. I tried it and it work great! No more waking up cold and stiff on a flat mattress at 1:00 AM.

Loved the video! My wife and I use a Nemo Dagger 2P and LOVE it! I absolutely love the fact that it's not a tapered floor so you can't mess up the orientation of the rain fly. Also love ALL that headroom and huge vestibules. The ONLY gripe I have with it at all (compared to the Quarter Dome 2 we had before) is the air vents are on the vestibules so you have to unzip the door in order to open them, but the Quarter Dome made it so easy by having the vent at the top. It's a minor detail and overall it's an amazing tent.

... Awesome video,, love seeing the dogs that think it's only right that they get to wear a backpack too ...Beautiful location and overall scenery ,, good gear choices .. only thing I would have to add is evening fishing and an evening and/or morning swim ,, nothing more invigorating to get the day started .... on trail for the destinations activities ,, not chasing miles .... Agree , in the cooler times , dry sleep socks can make the night SO much better,, and if too cold ,, down booties over them ... Also on hard ground ,even with a good pad, putting your backpack under your knees , relieves lower back muscles for better body recoop.... Way overdue for an outing ,, but soon ....hopefully ..

I have the same sleeping bag and pillow and I can confirm the pillow pocket in the bag is a game changer. You could even just stuff it with a coat or anything. Having it stay in place all night is next level. Seeing the tick removal really took me back to when my family moved to a house with a yard that was infested with ticks. By the time we noticed them on our pup (two or three days, moving is hectic) I removed maybe 20 ticks in one sitting. It took a week before she would come to me when I called. 😔 We did tick treatments on her for a few months, now we just keep up with spraying the yard for ticks every so often. We fortunately haven’t had a recurrence since then. The only silver lining is I’m now a semi-pro at tick checks and removal.

The dog carries it's own stuff! I love that! Right before you were putting on the dog backpack I was like...if only the dog could shoulder some of the load...and shazam, dog backpack! What a time to be alive.

Great job. The zero drop shoes are not what I prefer for long hikes. Hot soup is so rewarding on a cool evening.
