Talkeetna Mountains are a mountain range in southern Alaska near the towns of Palmer and Wasilla. There are several roads that can take you there including a seasonal one going to the Independence Mine and Hatcher Pass (both are in this video). Palmer and Talkeetna Mountains are not a part of any national park drawing big crowds so it is below the radars for tourist traffic -- what a joy! With next to no tourist cars, solitude is guaranteed. And it is really easy to get to from Anchorage, just a couple hours drive, which makes it a perfect day trip. Mountains and vistas are gorgeous and impressive, it is alaskan grandeur in its finest.
