A DAY IN MY LIFE (Singapore GCE A-levels student)
Right now as im typing this, we're in the midst of preliminary exams.. and there're no more lessons in JC, forever D; (except lectures but that's quite different) so will kinda like this video for the nostalgia n good times of studying in sch & having fun while we're still young hehe. can't believe it's only gonna be a few more months/weeks before we take the big exam n enter uni??? reality hits so fast n im just glad i managed to capture some of these emotions in a short clip! Hopefully I'll hv the willpower to continue filming & studying hard too HAHA
If you're having exams soon, keep going!!! may this encourage u in some way :)) whoooop enjoy!!!!

To those who are deciding on wether to go JC or POLY or others: Here's my qn, what is ur goal after that? Are u aiming to work ASAP or go local uni or go overseas uni? Coz let me break the damn stigma, from poly u can still go local uni, & i regret not going that path coz i was stuck in a 6 year Integrated Program. If you are aiming for UK unis, i suggest u take UK A level or IB diploma, coz it is much easier, the paper itself is much easier srsly & ure competing against the rest of the world, not singaporeans so the bell curve is in ur favour, theres a reason why Singaporeans top the IB diploma. If ure going to the US unis, take SATs. SATs is easy as well, but let me warn you, time is your enemy here. Poly, honestly is much more fun than learning dry theories in jc but ofc if u wanna go local uni u gotta hit at least 3.6 and have a PORTFOLIO PLS itll be advantageous.
@fromis.9
4 жыл бұрын
If you want go the big 2 uni from poly, just have to score 3.2 GPA which is basically having to just study a day before your test/finals. Portfolio don't have to be great, just join at least one CCA
@johnwig285
4 жыл бұрын
@@fromis.9 depends on the courses. If u take a look at the IGP for NUS/NTU, for 10th percentile, most courses especially the competitive & popular ones are in the 3.6-3.7 range, with nursing having 3.3 as its 10th percentile. As it is 10th percentile, ofc with 3.2 u have a chance to get in, but in no way im gonna sell ppl here such promises that u study last min aim 3.2 confirm get ur 1st choice. Ive friends with 3.6 who cant even get the same course that they studied in poly due to the competitive nature of the selection process. Portfolios definitely give u advantage if ure applying for SMU SUTD & SIT as they are specialisation unis. These unis, during interview stage, wanna see ur interest & passion & aptitude thru the product u have created. Especially SIT with its 4 stage process(Online interview, Group interview, Personal Interview & Assessment, Hands-On Practical Assessment) being one of the unis with the most tedious process whereby even JC kids with As & Bs were rejected as they prefer ppl who alr have hands-on skills.

Just a side note : IB isn’t as easy as what people think, sadly. U r in for lots and lots and lots of essay writing, workload as much as A levels students really. The reason why IB students in SG are able to score so well is because of the local sch support system that allow students to rely on Teachers who are constantly spoon feeding while IB is promoting independent learning which other international schools want to enforce in their students. Local sch teachers give off more support than they should in IB basically which only happen in Singapore. IB is like the GPA system that u constantly need to work hard for continuously and it is not something u can “CHIONG” last minute like A levels because in A levels, only the last paper u take counts. U have internal assessments, presentations, theory of knowledge, CAS reflections , extended essay which sometimes require solo data collecting ,besides 6 subjects that u need to study for. But overall, since there is so much things u have to juggle at one go, it will definitely train u good on time management. TIME MANAGEMENT IS VERY IMPORTANT IN IB!!! I cannot enforce this importance any further but yes it is what it is.
This is some quality content right here, man. You make everything look really chill and aesthetic but I know the daily routine gets tough so congrats for hanging in there! :)

If you feel like you’re in a compromising position then just stop. I mean it’s not like you’re going directly under their skirts anyways. You’re just filming what’s i front of you right? I went to Singapore a couple of times and i really love it there. I'm from the Philippines and the form of commuting is so peaceful compared to ours. My father is working in there and i hope that i would come back again .
when the lecture was going on I actually zoned out because I'm so used to doing that in my own lectures kms
Watching this just brought back memories from JC. Time flies! JC was tiring for me but the fondest memories I have are chatting and joking around with my friends during recess and on the way to classes. Now that I think about it, the two years weren't all that dreadful. All the best for your A-level results!
aww this video brings me back to jc days!! love the vibes 🥰
Seriously so thankful that I am out of the education system since I graduated from uni recently .... Hang in there! You can make it!

Thank you so much for filming and posting this. I’m in London for work now and don’t know when I’ll be back home in Singapore. With CNY coming up, I really miss home since I’ll be missing it for the first time ever. I legit teared up when I saw the MRT and bus. It’s really small and simple but it really reminds me of home and Singapore~~~ 🇸🇬 because if I were in Singapore, I would be seeing/hearing those familiar things now!!!

@Studytapioca I stumbled upon this recently and I would just like to share a bit. I was an A-level student before as well (few years back), and I really struggled through the 2 years in JC. Lectures after lectures after tutorials and the never ending content... The A-levels is not easy and I really salute you, and fellow others in JC, for having the tenacity to pull through JC life. It could have been one of the lifeless years in your life (it was for me - I never felt so hopeless, helpless and yes lifeless), but hey, you made it this far, so hang in there! Everyone says it is the qualification you need to enter the local unis, but let me tell you: it is not the only qualification. No matter what you get, get back up on your feet and push on. But NJC de... should be fine la :) All the best for your A-level results!! In the meantime, go and have fun because you deserve it!

it generally could have ended up like this or not the polytechnic route haha which is a more relaxed more of school ( lesser restrictions ) for 3 years solely based on project works and subjects more related to jobs like design, business, accounting, rather more the basic subjects in jc like english, chem, phy, math
This is like a slap in the face reminder that I'm most probs gna end up having to retake As this yr.... Hopefully not.. But atb for results in like >a mth hahahha!!

Retake a level only if u r aiming to enter local uni or u r confident that u will score super well next time. Or else it a waste of time and money. In my case, I screwed up my a level and I know that I probably still can't make it next time so I opted to enrol in uol in SIM GE. School fees is roughly the same as local uni. My lectures also teaches at nus, ntu. It's just that if u are going to take a bank loan for ur tuition fee, they will charge u an interest but not for ppl enrolled in local uni. Edit: start revising now if u want to retake a level
Goodluck for ur exams :)) am complaining about my calculus but after seeing ur notes.. I shouldnt be a lil bij

hey, im a singaporean student taking my o’levels this year, and id rlly like to thank you for sharing your vids on here :) they’re so pretty and well-made and rlly inspire me to study hard to have an ideal next few years! iI am kinda struggling with the decision making for education after secondary sch, and id rlly appreciate it if you can give me some advice :’’ or clarify the many qns i have on subj combination in jc i was wondering how subject combinations work? I understand from my research that in most jcs, i will have to choose 4 subjs (4h2 or 3h2+1h1) of which 1 subj must be from the contrasting stream but how much freedom do i have in subj selection? i am someone who has never been strong in math, so is it possible for me not to take it?I am interested in humanities and english language subjects as well as bio, so it wld be a dream if i cld take a related subj combi! but is bio considered a contrasting subj for my arts subj combi? is it possible that my subj combi consists of subjs like eng, geo and bio only? is chi considered one of the 4 subjs in my subj combi? Also, are ki and ell considered subjects? tysm for reading through :D i'd truly be grateful for anything you can fill me in on!
@kohcheexuan6691

Different jcs offer different subject combinations, u can go research it up on Google via the sch website and you must have 4 subjs so maybe u can have English(i think it is offered h2 but idk much abt it cos I’m also taking Os this year) geog and e-lit and bio from sci stream , depending on the jc really but if you don’t take English as one of ur 4 subjects, you will still take the general paper, you can download reddit and visit sgexams
