A Day in Kazan - The Capital of Tatars

In November 2020, I decided to escape my daily routine and visit Kazan, one of my favorite cities in Russia. Kazan is a unique combination of cohabitation of people of hundreds of nations. For the last decade Kazan has been developed to purely European city but it also saved it's natural mixed vibe of numerous cultures.
Some key moments:
01:23 - Kazan Federal University
02:34, 14:52 - Bauman Pedestrian Street
03:41 - Testing low budget pizzeria and having nutritious breakfast for 3$
05:21 - Exploring the most expensive district
08:40 - Interesting restaurant complex with national food
09:59 - Sneaking into puppet theatre
11:57 - Subway system
14:12 - Tatar language
15:35 - Kazan Kremlin
17:25 - Temple of all religions

I‘ve been! For a sports tournament. The city was spotless, I felt completely safe walking around alone, and everyone was very kind and helpful to us. I couldn‘t help comparing to San Francisco, where I‘ve been many times, and that city has big problems with many homeless, vulnerable people, and smells bad, and often I didn‘t feel so safe walking alone.

No. They actually tried to do such thing in the 90s but after they realise they completely surrounded by Russia just like San-Marino with Italy - they abandoned the idea. Nobody wants to be an isolated "stan" country without Moscows dotation and economical preferences. The example of Central Asian break away states which population now is struggling with poverty and migrate to Russia for jobs - clearly showed that Tatarstan made a right decision to be an authonomy in Russia rather poor and war thorn "independent state". Also keep in mind that both Tatarstan and Crimea have Russian population and it comprise the majority and Crimea and nearly a half in Tatatrstan. We can argue endlessly about how it was happened(and also about Greeks by the way) but it is a fact. And nobody wants to turn its region into Bosnia 2.0. Russia is not China but it can supress separatism espessially after the 90s. We saw what happened with Yugoslavia, we saw what happened with us during the 90s. And we never let this happen again.

    2 жыл бұрын

@@edenender The deal is not about majority/minority or natality rate. Even if Russian population is a minority like in neighbouring Chuvashia, the regions dont want to break the economical and political ties of the federation. We suffered enough during the 90s to understand this.Nobody won after collapse of USSR exonomically except Baltic states. All others - have a life standards worse than in Russia. Most of the population of break away states - migrating to Russia for jobs. Now we have dozens of regions without ethnic Russians at all. But they will not leave Russia even if we want them to do so. Being a region of Russia is 10 times better economically than being a break-away Central Asian state. Its almost the same as suggest Texas go back to Mexico.
