It's inarguable that the modified car culture among youth aged 15-25 is a burden on society. They do not bring anything to the table except violence, the highest road related death toll in the country and the other terrible things such as load exhausts, shitty car meets in the Bunnings Warehouse parking lot and doof doof at traffic lights. Just because you have a hobby doesn't mean we should cater for it on public roads. Take it to the track.

There's a decent 100 shitty Commodores and S13s in my town that would shoot down your argument. And yes, there may be 'people selling drugs and robbing houses' but there are also people who drink drive, and speed... something which lead to 1500 + deaths on Australian roads last year. How many people are murdered each year in Australia? 256. So where do you think the police are going to focus their resources? to prevent 256 deaths or over 1500? Fucking idiot. Yes exactly, I have a bike with a modified exhaust, I had one put on for the exact same reason. I start work at 5am some mornings and don't want to piss my neighbours off by warming it up at that time. If I get defected for that, I'll just take it to the cop station every morning and warm it up at their front door instead.

Cops who actually look after the public and take down intoxicated drivers and people hurting others. Then there's the bad bunch who discriminate against anyone who has a modified or "sports" car. A cop would pull over a Skyline for being too low (everything else fine) but let some mum in her Camry drive past which has completely bald tires. Which is more dangerous? Their priorities are skewed by their discrimination and policies to target "hoon cars". There are ZERO hoon cars. Only hoon drivers. That can only be proven if you see them actually hooning.

My mate has a Datsun 180B that he rallies and drives on the road. When he gets infringement notices for the noise and the ride height he has a quick swap muffler and adjustable suspension so he can get it back to legal in 15 mins, get the infringements cleared, then make it loud and low again :P

Build us a track within 4 hours of my city and we will go there! I enjoy drifting as much as the next gearhead, but I do it legally, on circuits open to the public for that exact reason. However 4 hours drive makes it pretty much not worth it, when you have to pay for the trip up, so fuel, accommodation, food, etc.

I am commenting as a P-plate driver who drove a 1999 falcon with no modifications. I was driving my mates home from the pub. Now I would like to make it clear now that while my 4 mates had been drinking I hadnt. I was pulled over 3 times on the way home, 30 km. That year I was pulled over 18 times, issued no fines, and no demerits. However I don't see the cops doing u-turns to pull over the my parent for "random" breath tests. Why must all young men be tarred with the same brush.

Some of it should be toned down I think, at least in the antique vehicles part of their inspections, here in the states things like wide open exhaust is allowed on vehicled that are X number of years old (usually 25 years) or if they did not come with emmisions. They should follow suit like us so those real enthusiest cars can be left to their own devices.
