A CURIOUSLY OLD FASHIONED HOTEL IN THE HEART OF PATTAYA
The LK Metropole Hotel in Pattaya is like stepping back in time with it's antique furniture and design. Many will like it for that reason. Let's take a look.

It's not art Deco Eddie, it's what they call French classical style! Very nice if your into olde worldy design from the 1880's to the 1920's That chair is what's known as a Chaise Longe, you can sit with your feet up and read a book whilst relaxing in front of the balcony. Great vids mate, thanks for showing us round. 😁

@k 1 Much too early for this style at the Metropole.. Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles from the 4 king Louis were much more opulent and pompous in design than the more modern flatter design found in this hotel

Art deco style is from the 1920s and 30s. It made a resurgence in the 60s, and in some music group art of the 80s like Duran Duran.

I know some French people that would STRONGLY disagree with that assessment. Fortunately, being French, that's all they'd do about it since fighting isn't really their thing 😉 I hear what you're saying mate, but I just don't think you can transpose the design ethic of the Palace of Versailles to some 3 star flophouse in Soddom & Gemorrah on Sea and still claim it's "French Classical". I mean it doesn't even work in Trump tower so what chance Patts? I think Liberace meets whichever one of Sigfrid & Roy the tiger spat out is more how I'd sum this look up. Here in Hong Kong it used to be all the rage, and for a few older gen hold outs it still is. You walk into a 350 sq foot faceless Shoebox and near brain yourself on the chandelier while marveling at the Shenzhen Louis the 14th gilded chaise taking up half the room. Absolutely ghastly.

I wouldn't call that chair a chaise longue at all , it's a wing back with a poofy or footstool whatever you want to call it .
So jel of the weather!! Lucky sod 😂
yes it is art deco and screw the haters who say it ain't
Nice one Eddie 😎👍🇨🇷
Is it old fashioned? Eddie - you are the man keep up the videos.

I prefer the Areca where you stayed before Ed. However I do like the coffee in the Mini Café which is attached to the LK Metropole.
SAWADEE, D Living in Pattaya was 550per day. Nice small place with pool just a short walk for Jomtiem beach.
That’s along way under what it used to be mate good shopping.
Hi Eddie, I've stayed there several times and it has always been excellent, easy on the eye and gracious. Good staff and the breakfasts were excellent, freshly made omelettes of your choice every morning and massive choices. As you say, not everyone chooses elegance but I really loved the atmosphere. Good luck with your travels. Also , the ladies really like it!
Looks lovely!
Classic style.
the hotel looks nice and cozy and once again thank you Eddy and Cheers !
1500 Baht nightly I stayed in that Hotel 13 years ago and it was 1500 Baht then high season. I remember it been built when I lived in Pattaya.
It reminds me of some hotels thrown up on the Gold Coast in Australia in the 1980s.
Hi Eddy, very much enjoyed this video. It most definitely feels like stepping back in time. Very lovely. Take care!

Wow I do like this place!
Well Ed looks lovely, I really like the look off it. I hope you are having a good time. You take care
It's a nice hotel mate. I stayed there a few years ago.
Stayed there 17 years ago just round the corner from Alex's bar Rockhouse on LK Metro .. Happy days and nights 🌙
I could happliy stay in a place like that Eddie.
I stayed at the Metrople 8 years ago great breakfast
The lift is very cosy !
Louis de Lebanon furniture 🇱🇧!
En-route to Phuket Eddie? Anyways, wherever you are headed have a good trip.
Back in my working days I used to go to San Francisco often. The architecture of the Metropole reminds me of many of the old hotels in the Mission District.
Them rooms can tell some stories over the years you don't get much sleep when the guests are on the Red and Black Ants 🤣🤣
it sort of is in the style of modern art deco and yes it does look very nice
Great useful info steady Eddy. Me and my friend are using Royal Vacation to handle our paperwork for traveling to Thailand thanks to you 👍🏻

It’s not Art Deco, see The Wave Hotel on Beach Road for what Art Deco looks like. The LK properties are more of a gaudy Louie the 14th style I guess you’d describe it. Chintzy springs to mind.

Also like all of the old hotels in South Beach , Miami are Art Deco
Always bring your UV lamp.
Art deco 1930s
Reminds me of a few old hotels in Spain old benedorm town.
still the place looks abandoned ~ warm countries are available with other people in them a lot closer than Thailand
Not just a mini fridge, but a full size one. A bit too stuffy for my liking. The wi-fi probably works really well because you are the only one using it.
I would definitely stay in that hotel . It’s classic clean , with a nice pool . What more do you want .

I just booked this hotel for 27 USD per night in June (next month) or 928 baht a night. The prices are still low, you guys better get some bookings in before things go back up.
I stayed at the LK a little further down soi diana it was ok but nothing was open like the restaurant and pool and this was before covid but lucky there are heaps of food options around this area.
Its not Art Deco. Stop saying that! 🤣Nice place. I saw another vlogger review the front, more expensive section but left out this section. Thanks for showing us. Looks perfectly good to me.
Thanks Eddie great stuff. Would like to say a big big thank you for all your time and effort you put in to making your vlogs. 😉👍

Cost to much 900 bhat would be fair
I’ve seen worse hotels than that, I’d happily stay there but I wouldn’t be so keen to be paying 1500B .. something like 1100 for that would be fairer I think. Great video again Eddy.

Totally agree
I only heard Everything Pattaya address the issue of prices related to Beer Bar BG’s & Nick Dean said that he is having to increase the salary of the BG’s where he gets the average salary of a Thai is 6,000 to 7,000/month from when the minimum wage is 300/day & an ordinary factory worker earns between 16,000 & 26,000/month I no idea but I suppose he a vested interest to play it down. According to EP with the money the BG’s are now making from salary, LD’s & tips they are not desperate to get BF & the BF for ST (When did that happen that you got 2 tariff BF one for ST & one for LT) can’t be found for under 500 which would fit in with Bars having to pay higher salaries. EP also said the Pre Covid going rate for ST of 1,000 is now 1,500 to 2,000. So many take blue pills in Pattaya I would like to hear your red pill observations on it Eddy. Another thing I not heard anybody address is LD’s. Back in the day if you wanted the attention & Company of a BG in the Bar you bought her a LD & as you was paying for her attention & company it didn’t matter what was in the glass & the girl would drink her drink to time it with your drink. Along the way that had all changed. Now they are in your face to buy them a LD & not just them but there friends. Then shot glasses started appearing which they can down in seconds & they are away unless you keep buying them more. Back in the day the LD was fair enough but IMO it has just morphed into a scam now.

Hi Isaan Man, The prices in Pattaya have been going up fast for a few years. 10 years ago it was 600baht barfine and 3000baht Longtime for a top walking street dancer, you know the type an absolute stunner. By 2019 it was 2500barfine and anything from 2000 to 4000 just for short time with a top shelf dancer. Then throw the drinks bill in and the elevated Baht and what was a very affordable great time has become a bloody expensive time. If the word is that things have gone up again for a half baked version of what Pattaya once was then that's probably going to slow down any revival of the nightlife in this city. Bit of a shame really because I now miss something that no longer exists. Have to wait and see what happens in the future. Cheers

@@ldownunderl2370 Thanks for the feedback. I can remember back to 1996 which was just before the SE Asia crash. Exchange rate was 26 for the US$ & 42 for the £. Agogo BF was 300 & LT 1,000. Pattaya Beer Bar was 30 for a Beer. BF 150 & LT 600. The $ & £ had circa double the spending power in 1996 they have today. So if you double those 1996 prices that would make them roughly relative to today. So Agogo BF would be 600 & LT 2,000. Beer Bar prices would be Beer 60. BF 300 & LT 1,200.
Definitely some stylish geometries going on Eddie.....looks a very nice place to stay. I'm a big fan of Deco myself...the running joke in family is my house is like a film set from peaky blinders ! 😄
I stay there when I’m in Pattaya all the time. It’s great and near LK Metro

Great review Eddie. I booked 2 weeks in that hotel this past December, before my whole trip was cancelled. Pricing was much less for a better room - studio with balcony. Think it was around 900baht. Don't think i'll get that rate again.
Art Deco was industrial style, steam ship, locomotive etc, popular in the 1920-30's
art nouveau...
Some people look better with their mask on!
Ahh, the Metro! I remember Kev in Thailand (RIP) did a vid on this place 3 years ago. Obviously, nothing has changed. Looks fine to me! 👍🌹🙏❤️😢

Not art deco. It's stately
It looks perfect ! Though I thought one should never bring a guest back to your room, no ?
The older places are always better as long as they have been maintained, more space too.
Looks a decent old style hotel. Reminds me of the Charoen Hotel in Udon. Old grand style and spacious. Looks like it ticks the boxes. Price a little steep I think especially if no brekkie. 1000 baht looks about right at this time.
Antiquated was the word you were looking for. Just old fashioned really, not my cup of tea. I love the Avani.
Great video. The hotel lobby reminds me of the Federal in Kuala Lumpur. Rent a car and take ride maybe north to Udon Thani area or towards Bangkok and down the peninsula to Phuket. On the road with Eddie in Thailand
Seems nice, I’m slightly concerned about the toilet clogging up though.
Eddy, Eddy, Eddy the chair is soft on her knees when she is talking to ya...... go have a beer Ed lol for my age now I would feel back at home in that place, my younger years and who knows may even be lucky enough to have a heart attack in that chair...lol lol
I always take those covered chairs out to balcony. Saves burning the ass on metal ones.. And more comfortable. Nice enough gaff. Thanks Steady.
I stayed in it the first day it opened when Lek was the manager
Beautiful hotel I highly recommend, It was my first hotel I stayed in & met my girlfriend & always kept going back until I moved into a condo 👍

19th century opulence springs to mind. Can we see a back flip in the pool please. Jus kiddin, it looks a grand place to spend some time.
