@@arcaniumdragon2444 White mage is the most straightforward, scholar is pretty fucking Janky but it’s also arguably the strongest if you can play around that, and Astro has very strong raid buffs and a lot of pretty animations. The new healer coming out is not gonna be available To you for a while because it requires level 70 and by then you should probably have a good grasp on what you want to play but it has a similar role in the party to a scholar.

@@CdrChaos I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you have to be a bit bloodthirsty to want to heal people. Because sometimes that requires stabbing the shit out of someone and sticking your hands into the hole you just opened in their chest, or just straight up cutting off their limbs. Sure, you're keeping them alive, but doing that can get messy and violent at times.

The moment a healer gives me sass, I stop trying to aggro mobs and walk away. Yeah, I might die too and get the rest of the group to hate me, but at least I let that snooty punk with a god complex remember what's its like to be ganked by 8 mobs at once with nothing to protect them but some cloth and a bargin bin stick.

It's just easier to notice it on healers and tanks because their performance impacts the survival of their party, whereas DPS 'only' make the fights/dungeon runs take longer (unless you are in prog and deal with enrages).

"My job is to keep you alive, not heal you." This was my entire cleric motto in DnD. Don't fuck with the healer.

I'm a lv68 SCH and even at this level, if I am running out of MP or even coming close you are absolutely blowing it as a tank. or the DPS is causing major issues and distracting you too much to do things well. it's what I'm there for, and I'll do my best, but I am definitely not gonna get yelled at if it doesn't work out lol.

@@tyrongkojy Yep. Every healer learns really quickly just how far their heals extend and will absolutely figure out how to do their AOE heals while excluding problem players in the process. I have a three strikes system. Usually I'll heal toxic players through encounters just so we can finish shit quickly but if they're constantly taking dirt naps even with my help then eventually I'll prioritize my MP over them.

you know sage is kinda unique here as sage doesn't want to let the tank get too low unless all the enemies are almost dead, since sage lacks the tools to burst heal much. However sage toolkit is designed for heavy mititgation WHILE dealing damage that also heals the tank as you deal damage. making it the one healer all about KEEPING tank high HP WHILE dpsing, as one and the same.

The worst aged part is sadly the "you will never run out of mana unless you're bad". At least as of current patch, WHM, even when played optimally, is now MP-negative, so in longer raids you just get to watch your MP average very slowly drop off the face of the earth.

@@Bismarck9871 Thin Air was changed from a duration to a charge. This means that over a long fight (savages), a WHM will eventually run out of mana if they are trying to maintain as close to 100% uptime as possible.

@@Bismarck9871 from my friend, Thin Air used to be a skill that let you consume no MP for a duration but now it's nerfed to 2 charges skill, each charge allows your next spell consume no MP if you play normal contents, it's fine, your mp will be good, but even in normal raids, i can see the level my MP hovers at gradually gets lower and lower, and that's even when i use Lucid Dream constantly

So many people refuse to believe this is remotely how a healer is. Every bit of this video is so perfect. Only thing I personally point people do on top of everything you pointed out is play a dps first and pay attention to the fights when possible.

I'd like to thank Jocat for keeping me alive so I could get that 16 Vuln Stack collection. It was hard work but it paid off. We did it, buddy! For those curious, the run was 90% shenanigans and the other healer dared me to do it on the last boss. I, laughing too hard to see all my mitigation from previous nonsense, still said 'You're on.'

Shen's clear and concise explanation of the event was so informative that I might actually start playing ff just to attend.

I play as a DPS and twice i have gotten commendations from the entire party first time was a light party second a full party and i was shocked seeing i got it from everyone playing as a DPS specially the second time

As a healer, I can confirm many accuracies you mentioned. A a normal meat-person, I confirm that this was hilarious.

Coming back to these videos has actually really helped me since I finally started playing other classes more often. I was a drg main for the longest time, but after hitting shb content I started branching out into different roles, and these videos have actually been super helpful with dealing with the anxiety of the responsibility of healing and tanking. Especially the comments about how keeping everyone at full health at all times is sorta a waste of time and mana considering that out of combat regen is so powerful you're pretty much guaranteed to be at full when the next fight starts. Also "dpsing is just mitigating future damage" keeps popping in my head all the time. So seriously, thank you for these guides, I cannot express how much fun I've had trying different roles now that I can relax a bit and focus on actually learning the classes.

Healer is a lot like clerics. Damage dealers, who heal.

@@Lillith-uj7tt Honestly you only use either during normal mob pulls if the healer is really shitty and/or dead. The latter one tends to happen when the heal is impatient and doesn't care about sprout tags, so runs ahead to pull more, only to die as a result. If you however HAVE to, I'll use clemency any day. Hallowed ground is for "Oh shit" moments and waiting for it's cooldown is a pain.

I like to think of Clemency less as healing and more as mitigation... that can used on other people. I don't use it often, but I do occasionally if I think I'm being a burden on the healer. Because I'm nice. And a big boy who can look after himself for a minute if the DPS is doing big derps instead of deeps.

This actually works as a guide to healing and I love every second of it

I love that both this and the Tank Guide are actually not bad guides at all under everything. Keep it up!

As a healer main since Realm Reborn, I say thank you for making this xD When I see other healers just doing only that and not DPSing (or when I'm playing an off class) it grates my nerves. Now, I can just send them this video! :D

Always remember to thank your healer or else they will secretly plot your downfall in the most overly complex and drawn out way possible. Or just refuse to heal you, either or

You forgot being "rescued" into a hole or an AoE. On an unrelated note, it's VERY satisfying to pull off a successful Rescue.

Yeah between all the insults jokes and posing there is some very useful info especially for noobs. I never really got into MMOs, and i never play tanks but i gave it a go in FF14 and he is right. At least now i know why i have so many defense skills that seem to do the same thing and why i have to stagger them :)).

I used to just spam all the defense skills at once for the mini and main bosses before that video, because my thought process was that most defence at one time was a good idea, now I space them out

As an actual WHM main since I got to Heavensward, I feel this in my soul. I really, REALLY need that song at 2:10 for all my friends who are trying to learn healing after me XD Also, I do worry sometimes if I may actually be developing a god complex. XD

Jumped back into the game a few days ago with a new catboi and picked Conjurer for the first time. Still nervous about getting to my first MSQ dungeons where I'll have to try and actually heal people besides myself, but this video has at least given me some good notes to go off of. @@silasmograth9322 tanks literally are all about going up to bosses and saying "hit me!" how the hell are tanks tops? They are complete masochistic bottoms. Healers are service doms. They will care for you and make sure you are healthy, but they can absolutely dish out a beating, and if you make them mad, they will make you suffer for it.

As a someone who has played FFXIV since ARR early access, I can attest that this video is the most accurate description of how a healer should play the game cooperatively I have ever seen.

It's technically the catch 22 of it though. Supporting a good team pushes you over the edge of victory, while supporting a bad team has little to no effectiveness.

As a healer in most games and in real life, I can tell you that we thrive on salt.

The carbuncle reveal as being blended for the aether infused Nouliths had me dead XD

Heads up for anyone who's coming back to the video and get the Lunarcon video but crap guide audio: the video gets cached or something if you've seen it before. If you watch it in a private window, it'll work fine

Yeah, I had a tank the other day that I was struggling hard to keep alive. Every time my cure2 had a free cast I threw it on him otherwise he was determined to slowly bleed HP through my heals... and obviously he had to draw multiple mobs because... efficiency?

@@KMCA779 You need to ignore Cure 1 if you have Cure 2 unlocked. Freecure procs are a noob trap. Just use Cure 2 only instead. Sincerely, A level 80 WHM

If the tank isn't clenching their rectal muscles every pull, what are you even doing with your life? It's also good training for the handful of real fights in the game, where the damage is completely predictable and people only get topped off immediately when the mechanics require it.

I love playing healer, even when sometimes the responsibilities become overwhelming and I lead the party to an untimely death from having an panic attack.

The audio for the con bit is gone but the video is still there so the whole thing is desycned.

I know that JoCat is a bangin musician but his songs still catch me off guard every time and make me surprised-smile every time
