#ThirdCoastCraftsman I'm currently 33, did 11 years in the Canadian air force, currently studying for an engineering degree, and realized a year ago my heart wasn't in it. So I've started slowly getting back into my passion and where I truly know my heart is, carpentry/woodworking. It's extremely motivating watching you speak of pretty much the exact pattern I'm going through. Ill be building my shop come fall, and cannot wait to grab my coffee, start my fire stove, and build things with my hands every single day. Thank you, just shows me if you can, I can.

I, like Chris am told that my super power is finding the hardest way of doing things, but I maintain that whatever you put into your project you will get back in quality, craftsmanship and pride. I thank you for giving us insight into the different crafts, being fearless in trying your hand at said crafts and asking the thoughtful questions that you do. Bravo Eric.

@@CraftsmansLegacy Thanks for the response. I have taught woodworking and finishing and I always tell my students that failure is a luxury and if you never allow yourself that luxury, you will never find out how good you can be. Also, I have learned far more from my failures than from my successes and if you don't know that something is impossible you might make it possible.

It has become my mission, to try and build proper hand tool skills. I've done carpentry on and off since my early teen years. The progression has always been more modern tools and methods if building things. I run a big cnc in a cabinet/furniture shop. With it I can recreate just about anything with 3 dimensional perfection. But it lacks the soul of something crafted with hand tools, by a true craftsman. It's a strange juxtaposition how we live in the information age, but have managed to lose the knowledge these craftsmen built over lifetimes. The kind of knowledge that took so many generations, adding the pieces they discovered. That progression of learning from your father, what he learned from his father, and so on. I think its a beautiful thing. Amd a shame that it is almost extinct.
