Loved that show. As a child of 10 or 12 I used a 10' bamboo fly rod. Ive now collected 20 bamboo boat rods for their beauty.
I loved this! Building a bamboo rod had always seemed like rocket science. Thanks for making it understandable.

I really enjoy Eric’s ability to become a student, without any wise-ass “I know how to do this part,” comments. He fulfills the eager student role, in substitution for us viewers, who actually don’t know what we’re doing. Well done video production. Totally informative and enjoyable. Thanks.

Watching this video really gave me a education of why certain Fly Rods are so very expensive and how the makers take pride and attention to detail and the finish product speaks for itself, WOW if i owned one i would be afraid to even use it. Peace.

I absolutely love how unpretentious you are in watching someone teach you how to perform the task. Too many others like to put on the act that they know what they're doing and then fu** up and laugh it off like it was an isolated incident. lol I feel like I am learning with you and your willingness to be the student gets the sub from me. Eric, I stumbled onto your show late one night in So Cal on PBS, and immediately perked up. All I fish with are cane rods, I've done small repairs but no total re-dos or makes; I know what it takes to make one. Wish you had time to show varnishing, then taking the stick out for christening. But no complaints, great show. I wondered what taper did you guys follow? tight lines, Darrell K.

@bamboomaker1193

@@nikolabahat5789 I use Nyatex which is a two part epoxy. I have a love hate experience with it in all honesty. I love the long work time but it needs to be heat set and once heat set it is VERY resistant to any further heat straightening of the rod.
Nothing feels like a split cane rod I still have my wife’s Grand Father’s rod I like using it in areas where I won’t find any monsters so I don’t over stress it. I prefer it over all of my other rods of modern materials. I also have a shorter trolling rod for Salmon fishing here in Oregon.
