A COZI TV Conversation w/ Karen Grassle | Little House on the Prairie

Ойын-сауық

"I drew again on my mother's wisdom ... how you think about life effects how life happens to you."
We caught up with Little House on the Prairie's Karen Grassle about her experience auditioning for the role of Caroline "Ma" Ingalls, her often rocky relationship with show creator and star, Michael Landon, and how she mentally prepared herself for her first big swing on set.
You can read more about Karen Grassle's life and Little House in her debut book, Bright Lights, Prairie Dust: Reflections on Life, Loss, and Love from Little House's Ma, available today in bookstores everywhere.
Watch Little House on the Prairie weekdays from 12PM/11C - 3PM/2C on COZI TV.

And Obviously, neither could, Michael Landon, or he would have just fired her, but he didn’t, Towards the end of the show in its last seasons, he just kept , writing her out of more and more scenes.

My daughter was only three in ‘74 and I made her the full Laura outfit. Every week she would sit on the back of a huge chair in her prairie gear and we would watch the show. At bedtime we would read the set of Laura Ingalls Wilder books and compare whether the show was sticking to the original storyline. It has to be one of the best written family programs and we could use more of that today for our young people

That's sweet. I used to watch it with my kiddos too. They both loved it. One day my daughter asked me to put her hair up in a bun, right before we watched the show. As I was doing her hair it dawned on me that she was being influenced by Melissa Gilbert / Laura Ingalls hairstyle on the show. So I said oh, I see, you want your hair like Laura Ingalls on the show. She said nooooooo. But as we sat down and began to watch the show I could see my daughter was watching intently as she was trying to hold back her smile. I said I think you want a bun just like Laura's 😄 am I right?? She just giggled and cuddled up under my arm as we continued watching the show. I would tease her about how I was going to sprinkle cinnamon in her hair and call it a cinnamon bun. We love that show too and so did my son. He just didn't like the intro, he'd run and hide in the other room till it was over, then come out and watch 😂

She still has her same sweet personality and voice that she had on the show, that endeared her to millions of people. And yes I do believe everything she is saying about her difficult relationship, with Michael Landon. Good for her. She spoke up for herself at a time when that was just not something that Women did. But she did and she stood up for herself. She was fantastic in that episode. Her performance was superb in that episode. 💜

I sure learned a lot on how strong of a woman Karen was in an era when women were not suppose to speak up for themselves. Thank you for writing this book and allowing the public into your private life. Your book was outstanding. I don't know if you have more material, but I would read a second book in a heartbeat.

Providing clean thoughtful entertainment to make us think about life. Karen was so sensitive to all the aspects of who Caroline was..she understood her. As a pioneer woman, a wife, a mother. She was graceful, lovely, kind, wise and strong. She also dealt with her husband's personality issues with love and strength. This was a great interview. Thank- you Karen!

Michael Landon drank because he was fighting his own demons. He made the actors on "Little House," world famous. His personal life was his alone, and it is not for us to judge him. Ms. Grassle, you claim that Michael drank and was a bully on the set. You make no secret of the fact that you drank, as well. You could have spoken your peace, or left. Did you ever consider that maybe he would have listened to you? Your role in the show was very important and he would not risk losing you. You say you expected equal pay. Were you the writer, the director and the producer? He made you a superstar and I'm sure that he didn't let you starve. He was the "brains" of the show. I don't want to read anything negative about a man who is not here to defend himself. The other actors are just glad to be a part of a phenomenon that took America and the world by storm. Where is your appreciation?

Absolutely correct, she doesn't care how Michael's family will feel, a very bitter woman.

I always since a child sensed something off about her. I just couldn't put my finger on why. Then I was like oh it must be imagination one year ago when she spoke about writing books with her grandchildren and now I see her real face. And it's not beautiful.

I hope people are going to defend Michael because even if he was not perfect it is not okay to do that to him after he made her a millionaire. She didn't complain back then and now all of the sudden after the me too movement it's bad? Really? What a coincidence?

Melissa sue Anderson was the only one who truly seemed to be honest and real there are interviews where she is with the cast and you can clearly tell by her body language that she didn't want to be here. There is a lot of dark secrets on little house and it ain't only about Michael. Hollywood has a lot of dark secrets

Because she's a woman that's what they do they are influenced by the media. And she is a lonely woman so she tries to get attention. She also knows that little house will always be remember because of Michael first not her. Women love to ruin re.p.ut.atio.ns .
