Perhaps someone might have said the same centuries ago when polyphonic music and organs and orchestral instruments were used for the first time at coronations, or when the Catholic rite was substituted for Anglican after the Reformation? Yet nowadays nobody bats an eyelid at such a change, and quite rightly, for the Bible instructs us to praise God in the dance and on all manner of instruments as well as with the voice. Ultimately God alone is the audience to worship and the sole judge of whether what is offered is worthy. Our opinions of musical style, form, content and method are therefore ash before the wind.

Thank you for sharing this performance. I was so surprised when I didn’t see anyone mention their Alleluia. I thought it was one of the standout moments during the coronation. I loved how they allowed their bodies to sway while singing and show their bodies were singing Alleluia right along with their voices. Just beautiful! King Charles really did well with the music and performers selected.☮️❤️🎶🙏🏼💜👑

Its nothing like a pure gospel composition. This piece was composed by Debbie Wiseman and given to the choir to sing. Its not the type of song they will normally sing but I will say they did a great job with it.

I went with family to the Scottish highlands to scatter my little brother's ashes on the first anniversary of his death. I kept hearing this beautiful song in my head, which was performed for everyone just three days before at the coronation, while we scattered his earthly remains amongst the most magnificent scenery. I just had to hear this again. Thank you so much for this video. These glorious voices, to me, also praise the life of someone who brought so much joy into my life.

But here, you just want to ask why ? And coincidentally, it comes after the controversy. That’s why I find it so funny. I laughed in the first seconds when I watched it. It’s like a bad parody. 😂

This was not meant to be a gospel performance. People are just getting it all wrong. The choir that sang at Prince Harry's wedding sang gospel. This is nothing like it.

They should have left the swaying out and just sang the song. The British are too traditional for this and their faces told the story.

@MS-19 One psalm that mentions the word dancing? That's it? That doesn't mean sway around like a monkey in a tree whenever you sing a song. "The psalms encourage movement" is certainly a stretch. Maybe you should read them all, you clearly haven't.

Not saying it's not lovely. They did a good job, for whatever this is, buuuut that's not gospel. I felt the same way at M&H's wedding. This is not gospel music. It's just praise and worship, with a lil' lilt. Just because it's Black people singing doesn't automatically make something gospel 😆 Just call it what it is: Protestant Worship? I don't know there has to be a special name for English contemporary praise music sung with a little swing...find a name for it please, bc Gospel Music this is not 😬 Maybe just call it Anglican Spiritual music? Yeah I feel that a lot of people deliberately make a point of saying Gospel. You are right - it’s literally a traditional alleluia chorus, entirely classical and typical of Anglican services. It’s literally not gospel music at all. As I said earlier - isn’t it strange that people criticise the Anglican ‘gospel’ choristers, but no one makes a peep about the Greek Orthodox chant/Byzantine rite that came before it. Despite the fact that is literally not Protestant music or worship - I mean ‘Protestant’ literally denotes the separation from Catholicism and Greek orthodoxy. Everyone just says how lovely the Greek Orthodox singing was. No prizes for guessing the key difference between the members of that choir and the members of the ‘gospel’ choir…

This is not gospel. The group that sang at the Royal wedding in 2018 was. They might be a gospel choir but are not singing in a traditional gospel style.

Christopher Smart understood quite correctly when he wrote, in his poem 'Jubilate Agno', "Rejoice in God, O ye tongues - Nations and languages and every creature in which is the breath of life - Let man and beast appear before him and magnify his name together." Think on that as you cling to the childish notion of Britishness, which will be as ash in the wind on the day of judgement.

It didn't belong in the ceremony but was well performed, though they should've stood still.

Traditions that are not refreshed will ossify and deserve to die. Psalm 150 instructs the faithful to praise God in the dance and on all manner of instruments - "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord."

The Bible encourages dancing as part of worship ("Praise him in the cymbals and dances" - Psalm 150) and it is part of this style of music, engendered by the pulse and helping to maintain ensemble.

Would’ve been totally fine if they weren’t moving like that. Just stand still and sing the song. And it’s a good song I’ll give them that. Though i Don’t think this exact moment will age well. It’s so out of place

That’s possible, but there is also no counter to the cynical charge of bad faith. It is also equally possible that this was part of a sincere effort to incorporate different traditions and religions to better reflect a diverse Kingdom.

It's an act of worship. Nationality means nothing before God.

I presume you mean black people/ethnic people in general. How? Most of them are UK citizens, many of them were born and raised in the UK, some come from families who have been in the UK for 3 or more generations so don't have any connections to their ancestral homelands anymore. Repatriation/expelling whole populations is just not politically or logistically feasible in the modern era. In any case, there aren't many people involved in ethnonationalism in the UK, and very few who are comptent/educated and aren't social outcasts, losers, nutcases or idiots.
