Year after year I look at H. Terpining’s vast work and look on with true amazement. The paintings are like a moment in real life. The emotion, the smells, the feelings emanate from his work. Tears often slip over my eyes as I gaze and dream the scene he has made. I will be in Tucson in three weeks and plan to visit his studio/store. I can already feel the emotion in my heart as I enter his space.

the way he plays with lighting and values is mind boggling, the clothing, the skin. it all looks exactly like how you would imagine it would look to just drop in back in that time.

This man is a genius. I first saw one of his paintings "Stones that Speak" at the Crazy Horse Monument. I stood for ages just looking at it and I am not one who usually looks at paintings but this was mesmerising. When I got home to the UK I bought a book of his paintings. His paintings of Native American Indians are amazing.

Howard is largely retired from shows and museum exhibitions. But he's still painting. I spoke with him last week and there was a work on the easel.

I love these paintings.I love the American natives.. I wished they were still in majority . I watched the western movies as a teenager and was horrified by the stories about the massacres of the natives . I visited Florida and I was so Moved to see a few American natives even a few dancers at the Grand Canyons. If I could, I would save all of them and bring them to Australia. These paintings are amazing and the collection ought to be preserved for the many generation to come and also with a story to tell. Thank you for presenting this collection. PRICELESS IN EVERY WAY. Jose from Melbourne Australia.

Most fine art painting in history does not show scenes of action. If that's your criteria for good art, you will be disappointed by much of the Western tradition. While Terpning does sometimes portray lively events, his work is more reflective and introspective than someone like Thomas. I also think his compositions and value design are better. Art does not only need to show us "exciting" scenes. It can make us think or even just reflect on beauty, itself. That's hardly boring.
