A Conversation with GoPro's Nick Woodman

(Visit: www.uctv.tv) Seeking legendary surf breaks along with a great education, Nick Woodman (Muir '97) enrolled at UC San Diego with the goal of graduating with a degree that would prepare him for a career in finance or maybe even law. What he got instead was a degree in visual arts, a wife he met in class and a dream job as founder and CEO of the world's fastest growing camera company, GoPro.
Join GoPro's Nick Woodman as he reminisces about his days at UC San Diego and describes how he's leveraging his passions and perseverance into growing a multi-billion dollar company. Recorded on 06/06/2014. Series: "The Career Channel" [8/2014] [Business] [Show ID: 28380]

I hate to criticize GoPro but we have to face reality. The reality is Anyone can copy all the functions GoPro has. China can make them dirt cheap, so cheap Woodman would feel ashamed of himself for overpricing.

Debby Johnson that is true but they started when they had a blue ocean to conquer. They have the experience, the know how and the most important thing..the power of a brand, the power to make people feel like heroes. I don't think these are value you can copy easily.

most people in this world usually choose to buy what is cheaper rather than what is more expensive, even if at the expense of Quality. This also means some still prefer the branded stuff and rather pay more. These are usually those who do not know how to fix things. They do not know that china can copy the whole thing. The DIY person can fix quality issues which will not happen in every purchase of china goods.

+Debby Johnson Absolute bullshit. It's still a relatively cheap consumer good. He's turned his brand into a verb and saturated the entire actionsports industry with it And explain Apple, which is in an analogous position and the most valuable company in the world.
