A Conversation with Buzz Ramsey | BAD ASH OUTDOORS

Спорт

In this week's video, we take a float down an Oregon coastal river with a true legend, Buzz Ramsey. And, while the fishing was slow, we learned a TON and had some fantastic conversations about Buzz's past, the present, and what the future of salmon and steelhead fishing in the Pacific Northwest COULD be. It's just a small sample of the HOURS of conversations we had with Buzz, and there'll be even more clips coming up in the future, so make sure to be on the lookout for those!
A huge THANK YOU to Buzz for his hospitality, his generosity, and his dedication to making fishing more approachable, understandable and sustainable for countless generations to come. The world would be a significantly better place if there were just a handful more people in it like Buzz. Thank You, Buzz!!

Why does this not have more views! One of my greatest concerns is that my grandchildren will not be able to enjoy the fisheries that played such an important role in my childhood simply because they will not exist anymore. Rome wasn't built in a day but it is certainly time to change the tides from extinction to recovery when it comes to the fisheries that make up our culture and identity as fishermen here in the northwest.

Politics is Ruining our fisheries here on Lake Michigan when it comes to chinook/king salmon, Their excuse for not restocking or stocking lower numbers it’s because there’s no bait or alewives which is bull. 😡 And a lot of hatcheries are not stocking German browns anymore and are stocking Seeforellen browns. Along with the steelhead, they are getting smaller in size. So since I started fishing for salmon and steelhead here on the Saint Joe River in Southwest lower Michigan A lot of things have changed and for the most part it hasn’t been for the better. But don’t get me completely wrong there are plenty of steel head along with the lake trout and that’s because of the treaties with the Native Americans on the lake trout. But our summer run steelhead Numbers are dwindling along with their size and the spring run steelhead are kind of holding their own, but for the most part Michigan hatcheries and Wisconsin hatcheries have changed and it doesn’t seem for the better and then they start saying there’s no money, and that really burns me because of Michigan is surrounded by the great lakes and thousands upon thousands of people use the fishery and they have raise the cost of licenses significantly, so basically it’s just money miss management other politicians dipping into the fund but money should never be an excuse especially in the state. But thanks for the show Bus Ramsey is a legend along with you.

Politics is such a tricky issue around fisheries. It always seems to get tied to other issues and then short changed as well as not recoginzed for the economic driver that it is, especially in the PNW and Great Lakes!
