They were useless. He was traveling around building a massive syndicate of Ricks to serve him. C-137 killed all pretty much all of them hunting down Prime, we see in the flashback of the history of the citadel. Makes sense he wouldn’t care for them anymore when they all got wiped so easily by just one Rick.

Rick Prime did it first. And by killing Diane and Beth C-137, he motivated Rick C-137 to invent the interdimensional portal gun on his own.

And we see advertisements for portal guns for sale at the citadel. What happened is that Prime invented the first portal gun, gave the tech to a bunch of Ricks, then those Ricks started giving or selling the tech to other Ricks until they all had portal tech. C-137 refused the offer and invented it on his own.

It probably wasn’t originally the plan, but when you stop and think for a moment, the “totally fabricated origin story” actually works out a lot better than you’d think. As someone on Reddit pointed out, the brainalyser was looking for the origin story of the portal gun, so the origin of rick made his portal gun was in fact totally fabricated. He just added 99% real stuff to make it more convincing

Whats crazier is that c137 wasnt the only one who suffered to prime rick. I wonder if prime rick even cared who c137 was or Just saw him as an inferior the whole time

Well he didn't had invented yet at that moment so Prime Rick couldn't know if he ever going to invent. Which means i think that was a scripted speech by Prime rick that he tells every rick to give portal gun. I don't think he knew that he will invent it.@@potsdam28

I feel like Rick fabricated his origin story to be close to his real origin story because the Federation Alien would see the emotional reaction as genuine and believe it.

My best guess is that since the real backstory has noticeably different gestures made by the two Ricks during their conversation and that Rick is clearly giving a suspicious look instead of Diane bursting in, not to mention the central difference of the portal gun was successfully crafted at a later date, what makes it "totally fabricated" is that the real events are spread out over a much longer timescale and the conversation along with the context might have been completely different. But yes, even if only the key points were correct and the connections between them were fabricated, it's basically still his real origin and that is frustrating because it means the premise of his season 3 prison break makes no sense.

He also somewhat implies that he was closer with rick prime than thought in s6 ep 10. He goes on a short rant on how when you shouldn't open up to people because they stop respecting you and that bad things happen, like they "kill your fucking family"

I think they either didn't want to bother writing a new origin story, or realized they probably couldn't write another one as good as this one. This one was already pretty good, and it kind of explains a lot of Rick's behaviors in the earlier seasons.

From what I heard, this was the backstory they were going for in the first place, but were reluctant to reveal it since it is such a cliche since a murdered loved one is the backstory of a lot of characters

Is there a plot hole? The alien insect says "you cannot modify details of a memory" and Rick replies "true, but you can modify whatever you want of a totally fabricated origin story"....but it wasn't totally fabricated it was 95% true, the only change was that he didn't invent the portal gun right away after that. Anyone can explain this?

i mean i guess he just created an origin story heavily based on the real origin story minus the real portal gun formula. just a guess though. This lets the origin story be totally fabricated while being ground in reality, its because he created a new origin story based in reality but tailored for his control

@@FlowerBearTTV Yeah I'd say the same. And also the point is that you can't alter details of a memory, but this whole thing is not happening in a memory. They never left the diner and Rick is simply creating a 'totally fabricated' Illusion of an origin story. In this Illusion he can alter everything, like the formula. Anyways this Illusion is based on a Reality, but that doesn't make the Illusion a memory.

It’s called false memory syndrome. In extreme trauma situations the subconscious can create a memory that is subjectively true. The false memories usually are based on some real memories. Rick basically showed a fake memory based on a real memory.

no didn't you hear this was all planned out never mind that the show runners never wanted to do long form storytelling and it was the fans that wanted it. This totally fabricated origin story is just what they used for his real origin story and people make up this copium to justify it. I like this stuff but I know they changed their pans on the spot.

It's not really retconning as much as it is just creating new stories based on what was already laid out in the beginning of the show. At least in this scene, the details of the past haven't actually been changed so much as they've been expanded upon.

From the way that this information is written and presented it is very clear that at this point in the show this is absolutely not intended to be canon, and making the literal false memories part of the story later was a retcon.

@@minoxiothethird Fuck it. I'm throwing my hat into the ring too. Why would you believe Rick of all people to tell the truth on that? Or on anything at all? He has been shown lieing for one reason or another throughout the show. Frankly, I think the government bug was... somewhat right. Humor me? When you formulate a story, can you make something truly original, or do you too draw inspiration from something you already know? My point is that it is really difficult to fabricate a memory, or for the sake of understanding, an original story. Rick probably did the same since it is very difficult to think up something original. Of course I don't know if Rick was under any pressure at all considering his ego, even if the Brainalyzer was about to meld his grey matter, but we can assume that he didn't have much time to improvise something, and decided to just slightly alter his story/memory (not sure which word fits more given the context of sci-fi tech). I think MatPat had a theory on this, and while not every shot he took o Rich and Morty was a hit, this here seems like one of the cases where he was on the mark. ...Or the creators gave up and just made it his origin story afterwards. We might never know.

To quotes from deep space 9 from a well-known cardashian that makes this make sense "Even when you're telling the truth you always throwing a lie"

The only fake part to backstory was Beth being in exolosion as a way of revenge for turning down the offer. Rick is def the epitome of what plenty of middle aged widowed males tend to develop into.

What’s kinda of interesting is that clearly none of this was planned, and is pretty obviously being made up as they go along. Which is totally working, they’re able to totally make pretty much everything fit together and still make it an extremely interesting and well-told story. With the exception of the implication that Rick “left” Diane and/or that their marriage “didn’t work out” in seasons 1-2.

The family doesn't even KNOW either Rick's backstory to begin with, nor do they suspect him as an "imposter," not that they would care too much either way.

rick primes look was a dead give away that it wasnt fake. he stood out to much the jacket the hair cut the little white patch of hair.

Imagine how interesting it would have been if it turns out Rick Prime wasn't the one who killed his family, it was something completely unrelated and he spent his whole life looking for the wrong person

Miss that season 3.

The best lies are closest/run parallel to the truth. So he was saying the origin of his portal gun was fabricated and used parts of his real origin to sell it. (The real life explanation is likely that the writers did initially write it as a fully fabricated origin story when they made season 3 but realised down the road what they could do with it if it was real and it can be fairly easily explained as being the real story)

What's funny about the title of the video is that the show is made up, so...

I liked it better when this was a joke and we didn’t know anything about Rick’s past… but this show just makes shit up as it goes along, there’s no plan or vision for it anymore. All it has now is how entertaining it can be… and telling the audience they’re lame for watching the show itself has gotten real stale now.

Just keep an eye out for whatever justin roiland does next. According to the rest of the team he actually stopped doing anything but the voices sometime around the end of season 2, or during season 3 except pickle rick depending on what article you read.
