A COMPLETE TRAVEL DISASTER (from start to finish) 🇱🇦 LOST in LAOS Ep:7

Today I am in one of the coolest places in Laos but unfortunately had one of the worst days of travel in a long time......
The location here is called Long Tieng and Phonsavan, both very interesting places for two different reasons.
Firstly Long Tieng is the home a secret military base that was home to a very secret war, and the second is the Plain of Jars in Phonsavan which is home to one of humanities un-solved mysteries.
Let's try to learn more about each place today whilst we battle the difficulties that Laos can throw at you as a solo traveler....
This series was filmed in November 2022 ✌️🇱🇦 ✌️

Hi Paddy, TBH this vlog of yours is one of my favorite, not because you've had a bad day and lost your wallet of course, but because your perseverance is very admirable! I was feeling down for the past couple of days and then when I saw how bad your day was but you were still pressing on with your filming, this kind of makes me want to forget my own bad days and just keep going. So, thank you Paddy for one of your best vlogs yet!!

Just popping in here to say that I’m loving the Laos travel content. I was there three years ago, just before the world shut down and I LOVED Laos. I planned to go straight back for longer (I only got to ride the boat up to LP and spent a few days there and in Vientiane). This series is reminding me that I need to get back there.. and travel further. I’m sorry you had a s*** time I’m this episode, but.. the plain of jars looks so interesting! Good times Paddy!

How bizarre...it's probably an ancient form of cemetery. A bit like Ban Chiang, nr Udon Thani in Thailand where they found a civilization that buried their dead in large decorated pots. It looks an interesting place, especially with interlocked with modern history and the overspill of the Vietnam war in the 1970s. Amazing Paddy and thanks for sharing...shame you couldn't get to Long Tien 👍

The CT125 just isn't up to the task of tackling unsealed "goat track" type roads. You really need to get a CRF250 as a minimum. As the Honda CRF250 is made in Thailand, there is a lot of service and spare parts support, and a large array of aftermarket accessories. I installed SRC racks and guards on my CRF and have heaps of room in the panniers and tail bag. SRC is a Thai based manufacturer specialising in aftermarket accessories for many bikes but predominately for Honda CRFs. Check them out.

Actually the CT125 is up to the task but Paddy doesn't have the mechanical skills or ability to tie things on properly. I have crf250s and have been on some of the worst roads in the world and still chinese honda wave copies can get there. So it isnt the bike it is Paddy, but he is a very sweet guy and luckily he has a great attitude and good camera skills.

Phonsavan is awesome. Was invited to a government family wedding there a few years ago. Lao people are so incredibly friendly. I remember them driving me to a hot spring to the East very close to Vietnam. The road seemed to have collapsed from heavy rain into the mountainside and we had to get out of the car while they turned around in a very small section of road. Hope Laos development is improved for the people there.

Hi Paddy thank you for making this video. I’m sorry you lost your wallet, yet I’m amazed that you were still calm and mustered up a smile to us. Truly amazing how you were in control of the situation. As for the jars and how the past civilizations could build those: I think In the past most continents were in one piece or several pieces but not as many broken apart as we know it now. So it was possible to build the jars on site without needing any transportation. Later on when the earth started moving and broke apart continents, the landmarks also started shifting and the jars are ended up in current spot. With all that said, I do like your alien’s involvement theories as well. I’m a big FAN of Star Trek and X-Files. So I do think it’s possible. Just a matter of time before we will be on the call with someone in Saturn 🪐 hope it’s in my lifetime. Cheers 🍻 fera

Great ep Paddy. Sorry about your bad day. Thank you for showing Plain of jars… my grandfather lost his life from the war not very far from the cape you showed… my father used to tell me the story that the plain of jars is the burial site for 8 footer people as some of the jars are so tall…

Pre flood history is amazing, movement of large rocks like this and many others where identified by the creator of the Coral Castle in case you wanted to look into it a bit more.

Hope you managed to sort your cards and licence (assume that's why you had a trip back to Thailand!) Looking forward to the next episode.. 😀 👌

Yeah, it was only $60 equivalent. I thought that it was much more. Bad about the card and license though.

Way to hang in there and push on despite the sit backs. That's the thing, vlogging is like a job - you gotta go to the office even if you're not feeling like you want to go. Sucks about the ATM and license. I hope you can get those sorted soon enough.

These Jars are dated to 500 BC to 500 AC. Stonehenge is dated to 3100 BC to 1600 BC The pyramids are dated around 3000BC to 2500 BC. A vast difference but they are still very interesting.

Paddy, you are a remarquable man ! After so deep bad luck, most of us would abandon. But you stayed on your feets and keep going. You have all my admiration for your strengh and mindset. I really hope that someone has (will) find your wallet and let it in the police station. Good luck for your "great adventures" 🤟

Stay strong Paddy by acknowledging your feelings. I’m in the north on a motorcycle. The pain of riding, the loneliness, and the occasional jackass waitress can make us angry…loneliness can make us angry is the point. Add to this anything else and it can f#%^ with us. This discovery of how we respond (and to what we respond) at a primal-species level cannot be figured into our plans made from the comfort of our desk or bedroom. In the end, the journey continues to teach and to develop us. My advice to us is to breathe, enjoy the fun, and to remember that this is entirely voluntary and necessary as our genetic makeup (nomadic, in part) doesn’t do well with predictable routines and conversations. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
