A Complete Guide To Range Trading Strategy - Simple & Powerful

Range structures have to be traded using price action rules that go against common sense. Short term trendlines and key levels are the main components of range trading. The highest probability setup is a reversal pattern followed by a failed breakout.
This video highlights one of the best scalping strategies that can be used in day trading. Whether you are trading forex, crypto or indices, this Scalping strategy will work incredibly well. This Scalping Strategy also works on any time frame and can turn into long term position holding.
Price action describes the characteristics of a security’s price movements. This movement is quite often analyzed with respect to price changes in the recent past. In simple terms, price action is a trading technique that allows a trader to read the market and make subjective trading decisions based on the recent and actual price movements, rather than relying solely on technical indicators.
The only people who know where the market is heading are institutions. They are the ones who make the market move and our job as a retail traders is to follow their footsteps and get the piece of their movement. As a priceaction traders we need to find the most profitable ways to enter trades. The highest probability setups are 2nd entries at the key entry points.

    Thanks Thomas, I've been improving my trading thanks to your detail explanations. Now my charts are marked like yours :) I did get suckered into the higher low at 25:27 and didn't scalp by 1 tick. It is what it is, I left my target at 12 ticks because I was expecting the new high, as that is the rule. I'll get it next time.

    4:30 NOTE: any counter trend move that breaks above or below the EMA should be considered as a MM TRAP. See chart examples. Minimum requirement is spatial awareness. Meaning where is the strong high or the strong low = trend bias. 7:30 Expect 'corrections' while the market is trending and expect reversals at key levels such as PDAs/ or top - bottom of ranges, where large liquidity pools will be resting. 8:35 Chart example of MM trap with bearish bearish breakout below the channel. MM traps aggressive bears. 10:30 Bearish inducement at previous short term high. Choppy heading south to the RANGE LOW. MM Traps short sellers THEN quickly reverses with strong energetic bullish move (visible displacement). 11:30 Market making HH HL HH and HL remember any move below the EMA (during a bullish move) should be considered a trap. 15:00 At the top of the range - expecting a REVERSAL. 17:20 When the market BREAKS OUT of a Range. What to expect when ** analyzing ** price action *** Note the market is riding the EMA down - it never breaks above the EMA! The market tagged the EMA 4 times and never broke above or closed above bullish. Your job is to find 2nd leg entries.

    Thanks Thomas it is amazing how close our trades are. Also trading ranges are now the easiest way to trade thanks to your explanations. One thing that I had different was at 7:48am (central time) there was a high with a second entry long at 7:58am and you ended up taking the failed second entry short at 8:04am a couple bars later. Either way they both worked!

    Hi, I have followed some of your videos and they are great. Could post a video on nuances of second entry long/short vs Failed second entry. I understand what you are trying to say, but sometimes you could argue the same structure both ways ? Plus how to say whether its a pull back or trend change. Thanks

  • @ThomasWade

    @ThomasWade

    Жыл бұрын

    The difference really comes down mainly to the structure. Same thing with the pullback. We look for trend change when there is break, new high and reversal pattern after current trend. When main trend is still in play, corrections are treated as pullbacks.

    Thanks for this! Just to clarify, when you talk about not trading in the middle of the trading range, do you mean the literal mid-line or do you mean anything that's not the main support and resistance of the range?

    Ahoj Tome, sleduju cca 2 roky Mackova videa a narazil jsem právě dnes na Tvoje videa. Je super vidět živé obchody což Mack moc nedělá - díky moc. Popravdě měl jsem trochu prolém věřit, že mu to funguje tak spolehlivě, protože ve svých denních analýzách má všechny trejdy ziskové, téměř nikdy neoznačí neziskový vstup. Koupil jsem si od něj manuál a zkoušel paper, ale bylo velmi náročné na psychiku, mít větší SL než PT, žádný prostor pro chyby, profitability% musí být nad 80%, aby to fungovalo. Zkoušel jsi někdy tento styl jet s 1:1 nebo vyšším PT ? Pokud to není tajné, jakou máš průměrnou %úspěšnost ? A roční zhodnocení v % ? děkuji. Tomáš.

    Ahoj, já jsem taky začínal na 1pt target profitu a ve mnoha videích jsem popsal jaký to na mě mělo efekt. Proto jsem se rozhodl jít pro 8-10 ticks abych se přiblížil aspoň 1:1 R:R. Stejně není lehké mít 1:1 R:R pokaždé protože v poslední době bary jsou dost velké ale je to mnohem lepší na psychiku a high probability trady co jsou dobré pro 4 ticky jsou dobré i pro 8. Procentní úspěšnost je kolem 75%. Když se mi povede chytnout dobrý runner tak to dost dokáže přispět.

    @ thomas wade, You recommend fading breakout of the suppport/resistance line in your video "The Only way to successfully trade Trading ranges" but in this video you recommend Failed 2ES/Failed 2EL respectively at to bottom and top of the trading range, is any reason for the difference in approach

  • @ThomasWade

    @ThomasWade

    Жыл бұрын

    I recommend both options. But failed breakouts are more advanced, when trading range is big you might want to wait for failed second entries. Failed second entries are always the safer and confirmed option. Both are good.

    19:00 You are NOT trading BREAKOUTS. Your job is to find valid 2 leg entries. These are high probability - risk entries. 22:00 Double inducement, Judas Swing and Mitigation =complex reversal. MM trapping both sides. 25:20 MM traps low skilled and uneducated traders going long at the Swing HIGH. 26:30 Success demands that you scale out one TF and confirm overall trend when the market gets choppy or difficult to analyze. 26:27 Spatial Awareness when you in a strong trend (either bullish or bearish) - you must expect corrections and not reversals. So so not start painting channels at every inflection as they will become meaningless. Remember retracements characteristics should be an simple abc or they can be a complex 12345. Remember to mark the strong high or strong low before you look for retracements. 28:12 Classic example of a complex retracement after a strong energetic bullish move up. 29:00 Correction, Consolidation, Judas Swing and Trend move. BOOM. Success demands spatial awareness. Thanks.

  • @ThomasWade

    It is. Also pay attention to structure. Sometimes I don't have the confirmation just yet but I see flat EMA and lot of up and down through EMA, this is indicating possible range.

  • @yur.vsaibo9187

    24m-45s. Candle of indecision (doji bar). 2EL(trap) works. And for those who have seen from maxim F2EL down (also a trap). Is that why it's a double trap? The candle stops everyone who goes both up and down.

  • @ThomasWade

    @ThomasWade

    2 жыл бұрын

    Correct. That is exactly why it is called a double trap.

    9m-45s. You said it. I looked at it from the very beginning even as an (Uptrend). But that's not what I was supposed to use. I had to trick him.(Like two legs up). I didn't understand. I didn't understand what you wanted to tell us. Maybe because we already have a maximum (extreme) as two legs, and we could try to trade down. A in the trend, we still expect a maximum (extreme), and there is no trade down. Transactions down can not be considered.

  • @ThomasWade

    @ThomasWade

    At the time I looked at it as wider uptrend but that was not correct. We were supposed to play the short term trendline and focues on two legs up because of the range structure.
