That Keep Yourself Alive Intro at Montreal 81’ gets me every time! It’s both so warm yet richly deep all at once. His confidence is one of my favorite things about him. He never doubts his ability to play the bass. John’s warm, rich basslines are unmatched.

Deaky is one of the world's best bassists, but he prefers to be out of the limelight, and isn't one for self-promotion. He just stood there in the back and got on with it.
The way he absolutely BUST out that solo in Liar, it makes me feel things 😳

It's okay, yes. But the Fairy Fellas Masterstroke is better. Speaking a s bass player myself I don't think this video actually shows all his best playing. Save Me in Montreal is superbly good and lovely to play too. Liar from Earl's Court in 77, where he is using a Stingray and Dragon Attack from Montreal is great. John Deacon was great bass player as bass players all know. He was just good. He was a good guitar player generally
As good as another one bites the dust and under pressure are my favorite bass line of John Deacon is dragon attack absolutely love that bass in that song so groovy.
His Liar solo 3:08 is the most clean bass lines and bass solos in any Queen song! THE BEST

Deacon bass lines are very well constructed. Pay attention to "Somebody to love" bassline. It fits perfectly with the piano and voices. During 70´s and 80´s the majority of bands were made by REAL musicians
Pretty sure John played that bass in Tutti Frutti without tremolo, incredible skill.

@@obsidianobserver John Deacon plays the Bass with a pick most of the time. he does finger play when the song would have more sense according to the rhythm and tempo of the song in question (Millionaire Waltz due to being based on a waltz is a big example, so is Another One Bites The Dust being another due to the upbeat rhythm and tempo)
@obsidianobserver
3 жыл бұрын
He started to use the pick more often in the 80s, I believe. He played Now I'm Here and Tie Your Mother Down with his fingers in the late 70s (as shown in the Hammersmith video) but played it with a pick in the 80s
@alpha34098
3 жыл бұрын
@@obsidianobserver he did used picks in the 70s too (Somebody to Love , Stone Cold Crazy come to mind). Back at the 70s there were songs that were played in a more slower tempo than in the 80s, allowing to use his fingers to play the bass riff for them the 2 you mentioned are some of them
@user-es6hj2mb9d

That was one of the reasons why Roger and Brian decided to keep John. He was silent, introvert and not cocky.
I get the feeling that John never really unleashed the full extent of his skills as a virtuoso bassist due to his shy and humble nature and yet his bass lines are fcking out of this world!! Imagine if he got angry and wanted to teach Geddy Lee a lesson. :$ you can just feel his tranquil force can defeat any bass player who likes to impress.
