A Close Encounter with Endearing Echidnas | The Making of Mammals | BBC Earth

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Is it a hedgehog? Is it a porcupine? No, it's an echidna!
These spiky ant-eaters are usually solitary creatures, but the combination of mating season and a film crew in their territory seems to give them a boost of social confidence.
#Mammals: Born to survive. Built to thrive.

I’m Australian and have seen maybe 6 of them in the wild in the last 30 years. Usually when they are crossing a road. I stop my car and put my hazard lights on and then get out to try and move them on back towards the bush. I don’t think they are always shy and wary of humans. Most of the ones I’ve found were unbothered by my presence. They even seemed a bit annoyed that I was trying to tell them which way to go. I just didn’t want them wandering back onto the road. They are funny little creatures, Definitely among my favourites of the wildlife here as well as wombats and the rare platypus sighting. Yet to see a koala in the wild funnily enough. Then again I don’t spend much of my time in gumtrees 😂

Maybe he thought the Master Emerald was in the bag, or some grapes. He treated Sonic and Tails as enemies because Robotnik brainwashed him

Fantastic video, commentary, & footage! Also, did not previously know what the word besotted meant so also learned a bit of vocabulary as well as information about echidnas. Very cool that the echidnas came so close!

A couple of months ago I had to save one walking across the busy road here in Sydney suburbs. Those spikes are really sharp!. We also have a big wallaby that comes in our back yard every other day. And we live in the north shore of Sydney!.

I had 5 acres in Macedon Rangers, Vic. One afternoon while we were having lunch by the dam, we had one of these gorgeous mammals come up to us, played a bit of hiding seek and then literally walked right past my shoe. Pretty sure it was a young Echidna I also got to video it doing all this.

We live in a rural area and see them a lot. But it is sad to see them flattened on the road because other drivers don't stop to let them cross roads. But that is also a problem with other wildlife. You find that even with the number of kangaroos that get wiped out.
