Higbee’s is a real department store. It opened in 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio and was sold and served as Dillard’s from 1992 until it closed permanently in 2002.

Melinda Dillon is the only living cast member that didn't return. Darren McGavin ( the old man) passed away back in 2006.

I have to say that your wife gotten me teared up after she started to cry when mom (Julie Hagerty) informed Ralphie and his family that his old man gotten gifts for them. Luckily that my old man is still living today at the age of 90. I wished that both Peter (Ralphie) and his buddy, Vince Vaughn made this sequel when Darren McGavin still living before his death in 2006 at the age of 83. But storyline gave tribute to Old Man (Darren)

Speaking of real, Christmas Story House in both movies is for sale. Current owner is selling the house. Like Higbee's, house is in Cleveland. Every holiday season, house has tours. House has some of movie props such as Leg Lamp.

@@popculturallychallenged I just took my family to see the Christmas Story house in Cleveland on January 2nd. The house is done up as best as they could to make it like the movie and is very hands-on friendly. Across the street, there is another building with the actual props/costumes from the movie, and there is a gift store in another building a couple of doors down. Very cool to see and great nostalgia. The owner of all the properties also bought the house next door, which is called, "The Bumpus House." You cannot visit it, but you can sleep overnight there if you want to drop hotel prices. I recommend seeing the Christmas Story House and checking out the West Side Market in Cleveland as well. Not related to the movie, but the market is a great experience! Thanks for your movie reaction - very nice job.

I am not one for sequels but this one was AWESOME. Especially when they can get the whole cast back together and rebuilt the house interior almost to the smallest detail. The first film had heart in the end. This one had heart throughout the film.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this. I was expecting a half-assed attempt just to make money after seeing the disappointing Hocus Pocus sequel, but it seems like everyone involved really care about this project and did the original justice.

Actually there was a sequel before that. In 1994 there was a movie called "My Summer Story" sometimes referred to as "It Runs in the Family." It is the same family but doesn't have any of the same actors, although Jean Shepherd still does the narration. It takes place the summer directly after A Christmas Story. Almost no one has seen it or even heard of it. The mother is played by Mary Steenburgen, the father is Charles Grodin, Ralphie is Kieran Culkin and Randy is Christian Culkin. In this movie you actually get to see the Bumpus family next door.
