‘A cheap, nasty stunt’ by McEnroe and Navratilova

Sky News host Peter Gleeson says “motormouth John McEnroe and his sidekick Martina Navratilova should jump on the first plane back to America after their extraordinary attack on Margaret Court”.
The pair on Tuesday held up a banner asking that the Margaret Court Arena be renamed after another champion of tennis, Evonne Goolagong.
Mr Gleeson said “Court has strong views on gay marriage. For that view, she’s been pilloried by many, with calls from many on the Left to have the Margaret Court arena renamed”.
“How ironic that two former sporting champions from America - the home of the free and the land of the brave - are so hung up on Court exercising her right to free speech,” he said, “it was a cheap, nasty stunt”.
“Court is an Australian legend. She is unquestionably our greatest female sports athlete and deserves the arena accolade.
“When we start censoring and sanctioning people for their beliefs, we are in trouble.”

There was a time in Australia when absolutely no one cared in the slightest what people did in their own homes behind locked doors. Sex or sexual preferences were never discussed publicly because that was your business and a taboo subject no matter what your sexual persuasion. Today we are expected to know a persons sexual persuasion and appropriate pronoun to address them even before we know their name. And these people claim victimhood? Does anyone think that it'll ever become the norm to begin every conversation with your sexual orientation before we get around to names?

Margaret Court spoke out courageously in an intolerant world, as did Israel Folau. Martina Navratilova and John McEnroe should go back to America and stay there, such intolerant views have no place in Australia or, anywhere else for that matter.

The arena was named after Margaret Court for her achievement as a tennis champion and she deserves that. Her religion and her belief do not come into it.

This is the same Martina Navratilova who was heavily criticized in cyberspace for stating the obvious about transgender athletes. You'd think she'd be an advocate of free speech.

Margaret Court is perfectly entitled to free speech but so is John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova. If you are going to use religion to vilify a certain part of the population then you have to face the consequences when people react.

What right do they have to come here and make political statements. Evonne Goolagong was a great player but Margaret Court was a champion player far longer and deserves this honour. They are entitled to their opinion but they should not come here and tell us what we should do. I do not agree with Court's opinion in regard to gay marriage but I will defend her right to say it. John McEnroe was a cheat who used his emotional outbursts to unsettle his opponents and was also a bully towards the umpires and lines people. He is no role model. As for Martina, she was a very talented player and I admired her tremendously. Now though I feel the opposite.

The American NBA is the same way. Some of the player Criticized the Chinese government for the treatment of people. They quickly retracted those statements and said that they don’t know anything about it it shouldn’t get involved. What they’re basically saying is they don’t want to cut the hand that feeds them since Chinese contribute monetarily. Tell McEnroe and N***va that, “no, that swimming whole does not have saltwater crocs”
