Loving your story from Geelong, having to save the coins etc for weeks to make the City trip. I did same while living in Lilydale, often wagging school hahahaha Train from Lilydale to Flinders st &walk down, i still own everything i bought from them. Greta 😃 Thanks for an amazing shop, amazing memories and being here still to this very day.

Great work Brendan. What a legend Greta is. From one of many who went through the formative experience of going there in the 80's and hanging at the steps. Thank you, both of you. cheers

She sounds like a true Ozzie metal legend! How many kids must have bought their first metal albums there eh! I fear we will never see the like again! Great video Von Doom, good job brother!🤘🏻

I remember the shop down the ramp at Prince's Bridge - The first time I saw the first Iron Maiden albums. My mates and I use to go to the bigger shop at the top of the ramp every Friday night. I wasn't a real fan of the new wave metal but Central Station was the only place to buy Yes, Tull, King Crimson or the BOC. I last saw Greta at the Black Sabbath show (with Ozzy a few years back) I was with my mate Dave who still keeps in touch with her. I gave him a dragon lamp that flashes lights and pumps out mist to give to her a couple of years back.

This was a great interview! I never got to Metal for Melbourne being a Sydney lad but I found it very interesting anyway. Utopia was bought out by Garry in 2009 and is far better off for it.

Wicked brother. Awesome interview skills too. Really enjoyable video. I always used to see Metal For Melbourne advertised in Hot Metal Magazine. and great to hear her story and influences. I own the debut Angel album on vinyl thanks to the mighty Scott Waters turning me onto them about 5 years ago. I wish i could have visited the store in its hayday. Awesome job mate😀🤘

That was a great interview. I can't recall visiting the Flinders Street store (the one near what is now Fed Square) many times, but I remember a small store with music blasting so loud that the speaker mounted near the ceiling had the woofer trying to jump out of the speaker box. I think I bought Helloween's 'Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II' that day. Would have been 1988. Here is some video of the Sepultura instore in 1992 Greta spoke about (I didn't film this) : kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKJnpc5xhNzJhZs.html

I think Greta got trolled by James. I remember when if you asked politely, they had two milk crates under the counter as you walked in full of nothing but Metallica bootlegs. I own a few, the best being a picture disc of Cliff's last gig. Awesome store and awesome memories.
