Thank you Fr Zhang and Catholic radio for this! 'only with Jesus can we gather', May the crushed crackers remind us that Jesus was crushed for us. May it also remind us that our lives are to be broken and given as gift to others. May the oil fill us with Christian gladness for we were sanctified and anointed with holy Chrism oil at our confirmation. May it be a reminder of our call to be a priestly and prophetic people.

Thanks Fr Zhang. Your interpretation of the Lo Hei makes it sound that this tradition has it's roots in Christianity rather than a secular festive act! Like how greetings and blessings are smoothly refined with Christian values. It's great that the Chinese roots remain yet are nuanced for Christians to celebrate this grand festival.

Chinese New Year Traditions that reminds me of God & His redeeming grace. Examples are: (1) Red Colour - Red is the color of blood. Blood is always present for the atonement of sins. I’m the old testaments, the blood of the sacrificial lambs & bulls are sprinkled on the alter and the people. In the New Testament it’s Christ redeeming blood, the perfect sinless man made sin for all human beings. So the colour red is auspicious. (2) Chinese tradition hang a long red cloth over the main door that drapes over the door posts. This reminds me of pass over night of God’s deliverance in Exodus where the Jews were to paint the blood of the lambs over the top and sides of the door frames so that God will Passover that household and not kill the first born. (3) Fire crackers - After firing crackers, the floor and streets are all covered in the red. It reminds me of the blood of scarification lambs that are poured at the bottom off the alter and of Christ when he was crucified for our redemption. (4) Ang Pow - Its red. Again symbolizes auspicious as colour of redeeming blood. (5) CNY 7th Day大年初七人日- We celebrate Human Day. It reminds me Gid made him sun on the 6th Day & on the 7th Day He rested and make it holy as the Sabbath Day. As the Sabbath is made for humans so the 7th Day is holy & special to remember God and is creation.
