It's been so long since I first watched this video. I can now say that I do in fact row as much weight as I bench. (315 for 8 for both) It sounded impossible when I first watched this video and now I know it's possible. Cheers mate.
this guy is legit... subscribed...omar isaf sent me here...it was worth the watch.

Thanks so much brother!
This guy is totally right about rows helping bench. Having big lats helps drive the weight up. It wasn't until I started doing a solid deadlift /back routine that I saw a stronger bench/push press. Great videos.
row as much as i bench??you sir have just changed the way i train.👍

No reason to believe that they have to be the same number or even in the same ballpark. They're different muscle groups that are trained at different angles. It's kind of arbitrary to say that

If you bench 315 and cant row 200 then you have muscle i balance, but some can suck in bench so its not always the same.

@Nathan I don’t understand how one could bench a ton but row way less. Their bench form must be terrible

Just starting lifting regularly and super glad I found your videos! Every video I've seen has made me think more critically about what I'm doing in the gym. Thanks for the great content!
Love this channel! Awesome to see fitness channels that just give clean straightforward no nonsense tips and advice. Too many channels want to over complicate this stuff.
Brian you are by far my favorite KZread channel about fitness. Love the personality and the great tips. Keep it up
I know this is one of your older posts, but I had to comment. I've been doing rows like you suggested (for a few weeks) and I can't believe how much they've improved (i also believe they have contributed to a better deadlift too). I wish I watched this years ago. We are lucky you decided to start sharing your knowledge!!! Thank you!!!!
Any man who's a friend of rows is a friend of mine. Great vid!
Such a great video. Barbell rows probably contribute to more overall hypertrophy than benching, as the back takes up more of your upper body. It’s a shame people in the gym don’t realize the power of this movement.
You have a Brazilian Flag at your gym, cool! I love watching your videos here in Brazil.
Just found your channel a few days ago I'm only 4 months into my lifting journey and I'm not very strong in any of my lifts and I feel like your videos are gonna help me so much. So glad I found this channel. I wish I could have a personal coach like you. I have no workout partner so I'm having to lift what I know I wont drop on my face or crumble under. So these tips could actually save my life lol
Love this video. I haven't been able to bench lately because of shoulder issues, so I've just been rowing like a madman. Went from barely being able to do 155x5 to doing 2 sets of 5 at 215 within just a few months. Rows are the TRUTH.
love this channel mate! rows are something I haven't done in years, time to bring them back!
I love your openness on technique here. I love throwing in ab exercises in between for rest, instead of doing it all at the end. I will say that I use straps for almost everything after a double-wrist injury that I've never recovered from.
One of the hidden diamonds in the fitness industry. Thank you for making very informative vids brian.
Hi Brian, great video. Also, Nice to see how far your videos have come in terms of production since 2016. Top stuff big man.
Revisited this video after 5 years. Opposing muscle groups and heavy rows are my mainstay and I couldn't remember why until this showed up on my feed.
looking back at the old videos I seriously think you are world class level athlete, i wish more popular athletes could help you get more audiences.
Hi Brain Thanks mate just started doing back and chest together first time ever, all I can say is I have no more shoulder pain,I am lifting more getting back into it at 68 you have helped and I thank you keep it going all the best for your future regards Greg
Outstanding video Brian. Keep up the good work. Thank you for what you do.

Thank you so much John I really appreciate that!
This is the best video I've ever seen. I row as often as I can. I've yet to see a guy in my gym outrow me. I have a feeling that I'm going to be out doing my soon to be admirers on every lift.
Thank you! I had shoulder issues in the past and since then I included rowing excersises between every set of horizontal pressing as a precaution. But although I never had any pain since then I felt a little unsure about it because I never saw anyone else do this. So thanks for validation and all the other usefull insights!

Thanks for the knowledge sir, I've never directly trained the back of my body so much room for growth!!!!!!!
Great video. In this modern desk sitting world we live in people underestimate the need for balance between pushes and pulls. I try to make sure my working weight for rows even exceeds my presses. You've got yourself another subscriber!

This video was a game changer for me. Thanks, Brian!
Found your channel after watching your video at Alan Thrall's channel. I have now subscribed and watched quite a few of your videos. I've already found many tips/opinions that are quite new to me, even though I follow several of the more mainstream powerlifting channels. I'll be sure to watch the rest of all your videos throughout the next few day. Amazing content. I'm sure your views will go through the roof with a bit more visibility. Wish all the best to you and your channel.

Found you through Alan Thrall, really good stuff man. Thank you for the help.
Brian, will add these to my workout. Have a tendency to focus on machines or one arm rows and neglect the fundamentals. You also helped me on using the Safety Bar. Watched that video several times. Can't do squats with a barbell anymore. 82 year old shoulders don't fit.
Thanks for all the knowledge you share; I've finally noticing gains in my bench press after taking your advice.

jaime cubias I get the sneaking suspicion that you're not pulling it all with your rear delts... as long as you're not doing some sort of bent over jump squat you're probably making gainx
Hi Brian! You’re my new favorite fitness channel!
I just wanna say you have a great attitude about lifting. And I love the point you made about using a little bit of body English on barbell rows. For me with heavy weight it can be really challenging to keep strict form. I thank you for what you said, really encouraging!

Awesome video and content on your channel. I'm training chest today, what ever I bench I will try and barbell row in a couple of days when I train back.
Killer content! I'm glad Thrall sent us your way! Since you're so jacked, I got a bit of a mass building question. I've been working my pull ups and rows a lot more lately, but most of the mass I've gained seems to go more towards thickness around the erectors and traps instead of lat width. Is there anything I can do to dial my pulls in so I get more width development instead of thickness? Keep up the good work man, can't wait to see this channel grow.
@BrianAlsruheOfficial
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother! I am no expert on Bodybuilding at all, but for me personally, I know I have found that for thickness, Rows and Deadlifts are the way to go. For widening you back, I think vertical Pulling movements work better. For me that is weighted pull-ups, of some it is lat pull downs. Like I said, I am no expert, but that is what has seemed to work for me!
Great video with simple but clear explanation.
This helped me out greatly, I was over complicating this exercise
Just found your channel and subbed. The best surprise for me was to see you're in Westminster. I live in Howard Co. I definitively will pay your gym a visit. I had a severe back injury in Jan this year and subsequent back surgery in April. Recovering slowly and back into lifting. Keep up the excellent work brother!

I do them or pull-ups virtually every workout man. Can't have a strong enough back!
Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Took this in Much Consideration and it has help my bench alot keeping my Bent over roll on the same level as my bench yesterday rolled 365 both over hands bare for a PR of 3 seperate reps. I like the test of trusting the thumb to stay tight to pull that bar all hands towards me. Thanks for this video because i never throught of rolls as of this untell i learned from you!

I liked the detail about reseting the position to breathe and brace.
This was very informative, love the stuff you do with juji, I'm Deffo going heavier on rows after watching this gonna try and match my bench (shouldn't be hard 😒) struggling to progress on bench so if this helps it will be great

Damn brother I've seen a lot of progress with doing these kind of new stuff the only problem with me is that I need a training program for shoulders and triceps because my shoulders are pretty much small I guess but I need more growth in that and triceps my biceps are good thou I need to thicken it from the front view thanks buddy this program helps me big time cheers
this reminds me of something that vouches for the advice too. my bench stalled for months, I started doing high clean pulls before benching and it started going up again and reps were generally more comfortable

I love this philosophy I will work toward balancing my rows with my bench press
Awesome video and explanation
Thanks for the hi-5! I built up my double overhand by doing deficit double overhand deadlifts twice a week for a couple of months and cut my squatting down to once a week. Got up to 420lbs like this. Don't know if I'd recommend it or not, Improved my strength considerably but ended up getting wiped out and catching the flu.
I rarely ever comment, but this was good advice-so i sunscribed
Awesome video, thanks for sharing big fulla!!!
Hello Brian, You talked about doing antagonistic muscle group for bench and overhead press but what about an antagonistic movement for deadlifts and squat? Like others have said, you and Allan are bringing back faith to youtubers! Thanks for the good videos! Thanks for your time
@BrianAlsruheOfficial
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man and i try to do some sort of explosive movement prior to a dead or squat that mimics the motion. So something like KB swings, or Dimel Deads or Burppee lateral jumps prior to deads and some sort of box jump or long jump prior to squatting. All of this is just to get my hips moving as explosively as possible.
Awesome video. Barbell Rows for the win!

I totally agree with this philosophy. I have always matched my bench press working sets with pendlay rows I just now realized that I sort of do "giant sets" myself. All I need to do is throw in a core exercise. Good videos dude, you have some interesting training ideas.

Hello Brian, I'm a new subscriber, and I never thought barbell row strength had to be similar to bench press ! I can row like 145 pounds, but I can bench around 250 ... we'll see what happens !

Straps on rows actually let me engage my late better, same goes for hook grips, if you dont think about crushing the bar you take a little stress off the biceps I believe, BTW I'm new to the channel, you got a new sub
