Hello sir !! I am a post intern now . I wanted to pursue MD pediatrics as it was relatively end branch & also I belong to a low privileged community , I want to give more socially in terms of education & awareness & I connect to kids easily . But alongwith it , I have been a little fragile as I have some health issues like adpkd & I get insomnia if overstressed & not have a routine. So this year I got out of counselling & didn't opt for the pediatric seat & preparing for next year for dermatology . But again I am confused where I will be satisfied by dermatology or not . On the other hand , pediatrics seems much more satisfying but emergency duties seem to take my sleep & health as I realise that it's necessary to follow my routine & to get 5-6 hours sleep at least. Please guide me out of dilemma .

@@bharatih.6437 I thought I am a***hole but i am happy that people like me exists. I took md pharmacology ,I tried for dermatology 4 times and I felt it won't be coming .I liked pediatrics,but I have extreme mental health issues and suffering from depression since 10 yrs ,diagnosed with dysthymia and anxiety disorders and also money anxiety, a type of ocd.hence didn't opted for it.not opted for opthalmology to as I am a non surgical person.and while i think I am happy with my decision,people started mocking me for my branch selection.i will not earn anything probably jn my life but atleast I want to be free from mental health issues.i sincerely request you to take care of yr health as adpkd is not a normal condition.if possible take care of your health for atleast some time and don't take stress for pg preparation

It's emotionally stressful not because of kids but due to their parents.same goes with obgynae .it's stressful due to the attenders.

Sir it possible to do fellowship in Pediatrics nutrition and Pediatric psychology and specialise in things like adhd, tamper tantrums, And then do mainly opd practice after md?

This vdo was enough to put a smile on my face aswell ( m not a kid tho) this answered all my queries and cleared d confusion between choosing MD medicine or paeds. Thanks a lot Sir 😊

Kanishka, it's a controversial area and it is not suitable for me to speak about the prospects of any other branch. Peds earnings are more like a slow curve upward. No rapid increase in income but a consistent rise. Other branches you mentioned are awesome in their own respect but better talk to respective faculties.

Are you joking? Nevertheless You have to clear neet exam with AIR within 40000 to get into a medical college first, do your MBBS then do masters in pediatrics

There can be a thousand reasons and all debatable. It's not totally true that its unpopular but yes, pediatrics is way more popular in Asian set up. This has got to do with cultural reasons, much lower sickness and mortality rates in children due to better hygiene and vaccination levels, stringent restrictions regarding usage of specific medications in pediatric population and relatively less coverage by insurance companies of pediatric diseases. There are more things we can debate. But generally these are the opinions I have come across from fellow colleagues. Ofcourse, earnings in west even in peds are better than India because dollar carries more weight and in general, all doctors and nurses are better paid in western world than ours. And just for comparison, oncologists and lap surgeons do way better in west than they do in our setup.

Depends on the place you want to go. For US, USMLE is must and for UK, PLAB is needed. However UK also allows lateral entry via fellowship route in which PLAB can be cleared later. For middle east and some east European countries, you can directly apply and/or work after fellowships.
