Frutiger Aero is the best examples of optimistic futurism ever, the yearn to have technology co-exist in nature was huge and could be seen everywhere from hand soap bottles to doctor’s offices. it’s no wonder why Frutiger Aero, Solarpunk, and y2k style have had an emergence in recent times, more people want Optimistic Futurism to come back

I was SURE that by the 2020's we would actually have cute AI robots (all translucent, all colorful of course) making errands for us and stuff. Phones would be crazy; not these soulless all same-looking black rectangles. Streets would be so clean. Naturistic shit everywhere. And now I know: this aesthetic alone made me believe in such a future. Instead, we got it backwards. This world increasingly feels more and more like an 80's sci-fi dystopia. That's why Solarpunk is the only way forward from this hell. Solarpunk is the only sensible response to the almost Cyberpunk-like era in which we are living in. Maybe Solarpunk will make Frutiger Aero a reality somewhere down the line... for our grandchildren.

@@eedi_beedi You won't get the future you want, coming from someone who's been following a lot of these things and observing it. You know Bladerunner right? You'll be getting that, but 20x worse. There won't be flying cars for the average person, and the government will wage a war against the civilians, only allowing the highest earners of their political caste to be entered into their own 'utopias' of sorts. I guess the closest comparison would be Elysium.

Something that I've noticed over the years is that since these "optimistic" aesthetics where eplaced with the soulless corporate minimalism, suddenly the general optimism in society has disappeared. Everyone started becoming depressed after being fed those flat, uninspiring and effortless lines. I personally believe we should start putting pressure on companies to start pushing for these clear, bright, colorful and hopeful aesthetics and bring back a little bit of happiness to the world.

The last space in time before the debut of the iPhone, the death of VHS, and the advent of digital TV. Sure, the Internet was becoming a place to hide from the cold reality of a post-9/11 world, but it was still accessed via our ubiquitous (at the time) desktop computer, at home in the computer room or at the library. Windows XP for the win! Being terminally online was mostly impossible, unless you were a shut-in. Gaming also hadn't quite become the mainly online, DLC-powered monstrosity it is today. And phones were fun! Between Nokia, Motorola, and the Blackberry, there were all kinds of cool designs then. And mp3 players! Not everyone could afford an iPod, but there were all sorts of 256mb-1gig options out there. I remember my 512mb mp3 player very fondly; it was one of my favorite Christmas gifts, honestly. We were connected, sure, but we weren't yet so connected that we became, ironically, more alone

Weird to finally be old enough to see new generations of kids romanticize the era i grew up in. For most of my life the y2k aesthetic and frutiger aero by extension was the epitome of outdated and unfashionable. I would agree that these were better more optimistic times but most of the surviving aesthetics are not truly representative of the way things looked or sounded. Over time ugliness tends to be forgotten and we only remember what was beautiful.

  • @ClockworkCrow7

I would say time has refined the essence of the era, like one refines spirits in a distillation still & column or extracts essential oils from herbs and flowers. The beautiful & pleasing parts are concentrated but when they are diluted for use the uglier aspects come out in a controlled manner. Yeah, the Frutiger Aero aesthetic is only part of the equation but it's been refined over time from the original ideas & styles from its native time period, and frankly is preferable to the ugly sterility of current styles like post-modernism, minimalism, and brutalism. Everything nowadays is flat, is some shade of beige or grey, and has the looks of a half-assed apple store and the comfort of a doctor's office.

I really appreciate the fact that this playlist feels very different from the rest of the channel. But, don't ask my why, most of these visuals gives me the calm anxiety of the liminal spaces. So I don't know yet if I will listen to this playlist for my southing moments. But still, really appreciate the effort! Keep it up

I've never heard the concept of liminal spaces described that way- as "calm anxiety." Fascinating. I guess that's another way to think of dissociation.

I am from 2008, that is, I did not get to know certain things that today the vast majority find nostalgic. For that reason I leave my comment here, because of the little that I know about those times, it makes me nostalgic, and these songs make me want to go back to those times where I didn't overthink and my mind was blank, alone. It was me and my imagination. It even makes me sad just thinking about it, how time goes by so quickly. Very interesting questions come to mind, when did everything happen so quickly? Where does that nostalgia that surrounds me come from, if the majority of images that are in the frutiger aero are objects, Windows games, and places that I never got to know

Reminds me of being a kid in the early 2000s watching old vhs movies that would all have that kind of music.
