It looks like someone explained diner food to one person then they whispered it to someone else and then to someone else down a line through 20 people and it ended up with this monstrosity 😂 they’re like “so you pile it all on top of each other and put syrup on it??” It’s got some elements, many not quite correct, all smushed together. I’ve never seen a diner serve food this way. It’s an interesting thought, good attempt 🤔

American here. I've never seen a stack like that at an American diner. Most of those ingredients make up an American breakfast, but I can't imagine caramelized onions paired with pancakes under any circumstance. That said, I can imagine onions and green peppers prepared with some pan fried cubed potato chunks, but that's about it.

Awesome video!!! There was so much fun to see! The menu was fancy, not what I would call "classic" American. The food looked amazing, though! In truth, I have never had pancakes with caramelized onions before. Caramelized onions are normally found on steaks at Texas Roadhouse and Philly sandwiches (lol). Maybe it will be a new craze if it tasted great! Yes, we pour maple syrup over it all! Many places that focus on pancakes have different flavors of syrup that stay on the tables throughout the day so you can have as much as you like. SeaPenguin you were a great sport and friend! I can't wait for your Sloppy Joes! Don't forget to get good hamburger buns and toast them. Use cheese to help keep the meat together, kind of. It's supposed to be sloppy!

That pancake monstrosity with an egg on top is NOT how food is served in an American Diner. I am an American Commercial Truck Driver that's eaten Diner meals all over my Country tis of Thee... and want ya'll to know you'd be better off crossing the big pond over to here to experience real American Diner foods. Yes pancakes are served with your choice of eggs... over easy or how you like them, with choice of bacon, sausage links, ham steak on the side (not piled up on top of each other, disgusting!), there's always choice of hot buttered toast served separately on a warm plate. Waitresses always ask what you want to drink such as milk, coffee (there's always a fresh glass of ice water that's free), tea or milkshake, depends on what each customer wants. Condiments are free and always at every table or booth such as Tabasco Sauce, Ketchup, different kinds of jellys such as Apple, Grape, Berry. If you order pancakes and strips of bacon or sausage links, your food plate will have your pancakes with packages of softened butter, the meat beside the pancakes not on top of them. Sorry but the pancake piled up with everything on top= one big pile was not a representation of how an American Diner serves Breakfast Meals. And ooh yuck... onions with the Pancakes and Syrup is a great big fat NO! You're definitely not eating food at an true American Diner in USA. Whoever prepared this calling it American Diner food doesn't know how its put together and served.

I don't know what these other guys are talking about. I'm a born and raised American and this is literally exactly what you'd find in most diner type places. Reubens, burgers, various fried chicken, assorted pancakes and breakfast foods. All foods that can be made on a griddle or in a deep fryer. Not a fresh veg in sight lol. I don't know if they have "Denny's" in the UK but they literally call themselves "America's Diner" and their entire menu is exactly this. The only thing I might question is the nachos but I wouldn't be surprised to see them on a menu. It's a quick and simple food so not out of the question. The Big Stack that you ordered isn't something I've seen personally, but everywhere has a breakfast platter that's got eggs, hash brown, pancakes, toast, bacon, sausage, or some combination.. so The Big Stack is basically just their take on all of those things in a big stack that you pour syrup on!

Different restaurants present their specials differently from others. The Stack is one way. The other way is to have the pancakes one atop the other. Egg on top. Hashbrowns, onions as a side and sausage and bacon as sides. Real butter always for the pancakes, also called flapjacks. And also as a topping on the hashbrowns, sausage gravy. What they serve as a stack is messy and hard to eat. Ordering all components separately will give you choices and with each choice, a larger portion at times, but most always the pancakes will nearly fill a plate.

i know others have already said this, but yikes that was a monstrosity. But all those elements you can get at Waffle House here in the States, which is a cheap diner chain, and i personally enjoy the food. The hashbrowns you can get "smothered and covered" including caramelized onions. That brekkie looked really good, just assembled really weirdly. PS I just found your channel so I'm going through it. If you ever start in on Mexican-American/Southwest food, i hope you don't' go anywhere expensive. A lot of southwest American food is from us Mexicans/Mexican-Americans, and a lot of us are descended from dirt poor farmers. So the food is homey and filling and cheap. And really great for hangovers! ;-)

American here, worked at Denny's restaurant for years--couldalways get a good breakfast there. First off, our eggs look pretty anemic compared to yours. I have seen a stack of pancakes with a sunny side up egg on top and the person dumped on the syrup and cut into the whole thing . Looked hideous, but to each his own. Sausage on the side, and I've only seen saugage with cheese when on a sandwich on toast or an English muffin, which is pretty similar to a crumpet sliced through and toasted. Carmelized onions? They take too long, this is America, time is money (insert eye-roll here). Maybe some chopped up onions in the cubed potato hash browns. They might get scorched a bit, but not carmelized. The hash brown cakes are pretty much relegated to fast food establishments as they can be deep fried. But overall, you have the right components there and it looks tasty!

An American Diner made by a Brit who has never been to one. First, breakfast is served 24 hours and that stuff ?????what????? A typical American breakfast combo plate would be a stack of buttermilk pancakes, choice of sausage (links or patty), bacon, or ham, 2 eggs (any style), choice of hash browns (shredded potatoes fried on a flat top) or fruit, and toast (usually a choice of white, wheat, or sourdough). If there is a steak option there would always be steak & eggs (2, any style). There would usually be a section of egg dishes (omelets, huevos rancheros, Benedict, etc.), pancakes (buttermilk, silver dollar, various fruit, chocolate), waffles. Breakfast would usually be one whole side of the menu. The second side would have entrees (maybe lunch specials), salads, soups, appetizers, sides, and deserts. Often it is a fold open menu with breakfast on the front, a vast choice of non-breakfast on the two center pages, and the back would have sides, drinks, and deserts. Oh and meatloaf & gravy would always be an option. Really, check out the Denny's menu for a large chain diner. www.dennys.com/menu

I would not necessarily call that “American”, but more American inspired. Personally, I would not have caramelized the onions, but rather diced them along with tomatoes and red and green peppers. The hash browns would have been loose, not formed. It is a commendable effort nonetheless. It's important to know that most “American” foods are just remakes of ethnic foods brought over by immigrants. During the initial period of the influx of individuals, they discovered that a significant number of their traditional ingredients were unavailable, prompting them to substitute them with local ingredients. Eventually, these substitutions evolved into the contemporary creations, akin to the individuals themselves. The TRUE American cuisine comes from the indigenous peoples, and their food reflected the region they settled.

That was an american "speakeasy." Alcohol and drinking was illegal at one time in US history. So it was not unusual for an illegal bar to be hidden in the basement of a respectable restaurant. People in the know would give a password an be escorted to the bar. The restaurant staff was not only the door security, but also the lookouts an alarm system. In the event of a raid, a button is pushed. While the upstairs staff is running interference, the downstairs staff has time to send all the illegal booze down a hidden shoot to the sewer. If the raid does find the hidden door to the bar, they walk in to a room of people playing poker or some other slap on the wrist crime, not the federal crime that was actually taking place. Most of the locals knew an looked the other way. This was all to protect from federal cops raiding the place.

The food itself - hash browns, eggs, pancakes, maple syrup - is very American, of course. But a diner in America does not spend time worrying about the presentation of a plate. That really is the anti-thesis of what an American diner is. A diner is generally a roadside restaurant that does good, down-home cooking, with no pretention. Pancakes will be slopped on a plate beside a few pieces of sausage, a couple of eggs, and syrup will often already be on the table. Diners are very simple, unpretentious places that just serve good food at a good price by hometown cooks and waitresses. There generally will not be any consideration to the presentation of the plate. For that reason alone, I really would not call this a diner at all (other than the food looks delicious).

If you haven't yet, try making: "Biscuits and Gravy!" Also, if you're gonna' hit a diner, gotta' get a diner staple: Chicken-fried steak. Also called Country-Fried Steak. Not actually chicken, just breaded and deep fried *like* fried chicken, hence "chicken-fried." But actually an inexpensive tenderized beef steak breaded and deep fried, then typically topped with white gravy, and served with mashed potatoes, vegetables, dinner roll, etc. Alternately there's a breakfast version which is much the same but with hash browns, eggs any style, sausage links, and possibly pancakes or french toast as well. Ooh, thought of another Americanism for you... S'mores! A camping tradition. Properly made over a campfire. Get some large marshmallows, stick one on a sharp stick (or get some metal pokey skewers, if you must). Hold marshmallow over fire or down near the coals (not too close, not too far)... **ohh shit, it caught fire! blow it out.** let it cool down, then enjoy that one on its own [a bit caramelized / "Cajun-style"], it was just a test. **try agai-- sh!t... that burnt fast too. This gonna' be tricky** Okay, close enough to get warm / hot and get nice and gooey / melty and a little golden brown [How did it still catch fire?? quick blow it out! It's still good!] Ehh, good enough... Now put a square of dark chocolate on a square of Graham Cracker **checks notes: no 'Graham Crackers' in the UK?? not a thing over there?** Okay, put a square of dark chocolate on a "digestive biscuit" (which I hear are similar to graham crackers, sort of? maybe? If not, I dunno, check the internet for the closest thing to graham crackers, or order some from stateside? OR get a box from one of those overpriced "American Stores" or whatever that import candy and stuff and resell it at hyper-inflated prices...) Put the melted marshmallow on top of the chocolate, and another graham cracker (sorry, "digestive biscuit") on top, and pull the skewer out. If the marshmallow was hot & gooey enough, and the dark chocolate was high enough % cacao & cocoa butter, it should melt pretty quickly from the heat of the gooey molten marshmallow. You have successfully achieved "S'mores"-ness... **eat smore** Yes, it's supposed to go everywhere and be one of the messiest and most delicious camping treats on the planet. ;) THE END. Thank you for coming on this journey with me. :P ;)

For years I have watched people from the EU laughing at fat Americans. Between you and Jolly, we Americans will be enjoying the last laugh. You may want to try Southern Biscuits and Gravy. Pick up the Recipe to make at home, while you are out there lol

That "diner" is a crime against humanity. I can only hope you have an opportunity to go to a real diner one day.
