it's so hard to find history videos about takara dolls on youtube＞︿＜ i'm glad i found your channel!! I'm a senior in HS and I've been very fascinated with dolls lately. specifically repainting and customizing. I had been trying to find bjd dolls that are cheaper than the high brand ones like Monster High dolls to repaint, when I found what I'm guessing is a 1990 happy bridal ma-ba Barbie doll (the one without the sleeves & gloves) at my local 2nd hand shop in Japan. I couldn't see her too well because the amount of plastic she was wrapped in but something made her stand out from the rest of the dolls in the box. I got her for 550 yen so about $4. It was honestly a hit or miss but I'd never been so pulled toward a doll I was confident she was the one. I have barley any knowledge on dolls so I thought she was a vintage Licca chan at first. She's missing her shoes and had very frizzy hair (already resolved) but other than that she's a beautiful doll. She was definitely really loved by her previous owner. I went through so many eBay listings and old forums just to identify her. I'm wondering if there's any good sites for maybe identifying vintage dolls or good forums for them. I'm new in the community so I've been having trouble finding my way around. I don't plan to repaint her or anything crazy. I just want to know more about these dolls and hopefully collect more in the future.

Ideal used that type of wired pose capability for Posin' Pepper, and probably others. Wired from one arm through the other, same for the legs...wired as one!

Such a great history! ❤️ I am so glad you didn't go into Maria/Barbie/Jenny. It is so nice to not have Barbie come into every conversation 😂 I have always loved Mama but have never been sure of her size. I love the version with the brown watery eyes. Her clothes are stunning too. I can't believe you said all of this off the top of your head. I for sure would have been reading off a piece of paper 😂

Your depth of knowledge is incredible. I really like the Takara dolls, especially the Barbie era. I want to add one kind of each Takara Barbie to my collection, but I’m running into some trouble when it comes to two dolls. One is a random doll I see come up out of box that people claim to be Takara Barbie, but she has the “Angel Licca” face sculpt and blue eyes. I’m not sure if she’s really a Takara Barbie or which Barbie she originally was. Another is the excellina Barbie. This one has the original Takara Barbie/Jenny face, but blue eyes and an ashier blonde hair in two kinds of styles. I cannot tell the difference between the Barbie excellina and the Jenny excellina. Do you happen to know about these dolls? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! Without a specific name or photo I am super unsure on the first one. The early Excellina Jenny dolls are so hard to tell the difference between her and the Barbie ones unless they are still in box sadly. I’ve had both and wasn’t able to tell the difference on the early ones.

Kurumi is indeed Izumi's sister and Masato not Masamu... XDDD You're making a hybrid between him and Isamu... LOL XDDD Isamu had 2 generations 1st gen had blue eyes and thicker eyebrows with curled hair and second gen (3rd gen Licca) had brown eyes and straight hair... LOL My main Takara collection is Licca Friends and variations of Licca as you already know... ;D I still need to get a Lisa, Lori was rocking that Dolly Parton bubble mullet!!!! You also missed Pinky pink the fifth gen one! It only lasted a few months and they then reverted back to gen 4... I also don't like the newer Jennys and 17 Liccas I purchased Emo cat on presale and when I got her hollow leg Jenny mold I was not happy... I find since Tomy bought Takara, Licca and Jenny's quality went down the drain and the prices rose... :( I also bought the Tomy BTSB Jenny on preorder back when they had just merged and her hair out of box was a tragedy and such crap quality, after a lot of styling she looks OK now but still she's the lowest quality of my Jennys and Emo cat is the lowest quality of all my Liccas, I try to stay away from Tomy dolls and only buy vintage Takara ones, unless it is something very special...
