Historically, the Harlem ball scene and houses came about because these Black LGBTQIA people were thrown out of their bloodline families.

I have always loved and am in love with this community. I know as times goes the struggle will loosen up and mainstream media will downright try and steal your styles - and sell it as brand new.

Because of rpdr, now it's all designers and what they can mop or get/buy. It's kinda ironic since back in the 80s when Rupaul was part of the ballroom scene those runways were a competition of designs of amazing creativity which mainstream runways across the world and even that bigot a hole, Tommy Hilfiger, would steal and then embellish to make them their own and make their coins--a lot of coins! We sure miss that creativity that is absent from the ballroom scene today.

RPDR is a ballroom derivative but it is a very separate thing from ballroom itself. Also let it be known RuPaul was NOT part of the ballroom scene he was very much a club kid. Ironically the only person in the judges panel who stepped into that culture was Michelle 😭

dramatics and twister voguers all come to a point when it is dangerous to do big dips. leyomi had to have back surgery. several fem queens who got silicone in their hips had to get tattoos on their hips and thighs to hide the brusing from dipping. ashley would not dare try to do the dips she helped create. pioneers and older icons stick to runway or oldway voguing, and that's for the best.
