A book haul ft. Glass Bookshop

Фильм және анимация

A book haul!
I realized after filming that I've got books here from Glass Bookshop, Chapters, Audrey's, and Wee Book Inn, which pretty much covers it for Edmonton book buying options...
Also covering #novellasinnovember and #victober options!
Glass Bookshop: www.glassbookshop.com/shop and on Instagram
Books:
Ducks, Newburyport
The Poor Clare by Elizabeth Gaskell
The Life of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell
Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue
Echolocation by Karen Hofmann
Coventry by Rachel Cusk
bédayine by Kaitlynne Purcell

The Glass Bookshop looks amazing. And this was a great haul. I look forward to hear your thoughts on all of them. Have a lovely weekend, Laura 💖

Interesting acquisitions, Laura! And what a boon to have new, independent bookshops springing up in your vicinity. We live in a college town which is sadly under-served in that regard--pretty much Barnes & Noble or bust. Hope you'll be attending/vlogging some events there, soon!

This is all so great! Very happy you're reading Ellmann. I wish I could visit Glass Bookshop - so happy they both made their shop happen. And I've never seen Emma Donoghue in conversation - would love to hear her talk about her writing. All great books! I've read a few of the short stories in Zadie's new collection, but Cusk isn't a bad choice (even though she's not my favourite 😜)

@@LauraFreyReadinginBed You're right, I could! And my partner and I are tentatively planning to go on a roadtrip around the Pacific Northwest of the US and Vancouver next year - but Edmonton is still quite a drive from there, isn't it?

So exciting to see Glass open! I thought Coventry was pretty good. Some of it missed the mark for me, largely because I was expecting a full collection of personal essays and they've filled it out with other criticism. I just read quite a scathing review of the new Z Smith on 3AM so based on that I think you did choose wisely, haha. I loved Milkman, I hope you get into it.

Totally agree about Ducks, it’s not 8 sentences! I am finding it very readable and intensely relatable. I also immediately though Flowers in the Attic when I heard about Crummey’s new book!

What page are you on? Im finding it, not quite relatable, is very American in it's perspective, but I'm loving it nevertheless!

Laura Frey I am on page 500 or so. It is very American so I can see how that would be a miss for some. I have thought so many of the things that she thinks!

I’m loving ducks 🦆! About the page breaks, I tend to call them ad breaks. The single sentence continues but I agree, calling the entire book a single sentence is a misrepresentation. Yay for Milkman...what is with me cheering for English books. I’d be curious to hearing your thoughts on Michael Crummeys new book, I really loved Sweetland and need to try more from him (again with the English books, my rep is ruined)

Yeah, that's what the event was about! Initially I wasn't overly interested in it, it's the story of an old man who is thrown into carrying for his young, troubled nephew while trying to solve some family mysteries, but you know, she spoke so well about it, I will read it eventually.
