A Body in the River - Professor Carolyn Roberts

Professor Roberts describes her work with UK police forces: www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and...
The bodies of murder victims, whole or in pieces, often end up in rivers or canals. Carolyn Roberts' work as an Expert Witness with UK police forces has applied the principles of hydrology to murder investigations.
In these tragic and gruesome settings, environmental science can help to identify where bodies have come from or gone to. Drawing on macabre and fascinating case studies, the lecture will range from particular cases to general principles of tracing bodies, and the application of science in supporting the law.
Probably not for those of a nervous disposition, but of guaranteed interest to the curious.
The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and...
Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. This tradition continues today with all of our five or so public lectures a week being made available for free download from our website. There are currently over 1,800 lectures free to access or download from the website.

How wonderful is Professor Carolyn Roberts, if only just one of my teachers at school could have been as interesting as this genius Lady, her presentation and expression grips you, utterly fascinating and extremely knowledgeable.

cosmichemistry, me too. Really good educational and intellectual content never gets the most views but it always gets a steady stream. The audience is always out there but this stuff only really excites a few. At least you can take comfort in knowing you are one of the bright people. And Gresham College gets the highest praise from me (even the less grusome stuff!)

This lecture could of been really boring what with the subject (if tidal times, height and speed are not your thing) but thanks to the lecturer's enthusiasm and the right level of detail, explanation and consequence, it was really interesting.

26:54 Schematic view of how a body might move through the water once dumped in. I love the shopping cart! LOL. Nice touch. What an excellent presentation on a grim subject.

How does somebody manage to throw a fridge into a river? Wow. I mean think about it. What a huge pain.
