Hi Steve, Sue joined me later. I'm happy to rough it when necessary. When we checked out I did mention, if she had been coming along from the start, I would have chosen somewhere a wee bit classier.

I remember the hilton Treetops in the 90's. It had a table tennis table beside the gym. Great hotel. Scott no trip of Pittodrie?

I have a lot of fond memories of Aberdeen. Met my wife while I worked there and also met a lot of good people. Loved our trips out of Stonehaven

Aberdeen is a lovely city. Would also recommend the Maritime museum & Aberdeen Art Gallery. Also 20 minute walk to promenade. Great video.

Great video, I would definitely have gone to see Old Aberdeen as it’s such a peaceful and beautiful area, had a coffee on the roof top cafe at the art gallery.. outside the city you could have gone to Dunnottar Castle outside Stonehaven and Crathes Castle near Banchory. And perhaps the Gordon Highlanders Museum and nearby Johnston Gardens (a real hidden gem)

Aberdeen is a Jewel in Scotland and also the powerhouse of the U.K. economy still today. A city filled with character and Aberdonians are easily the most proud people in Scotland and rightly so

Aberdeen is a surprise,I am local yes Union Street needs a make over but surprises everywhere.

It's always been on my to do list. I live in North London, but always fancied a weekend in Aberdeen. Go to Pitadorie to see a game. Curry in the evening. Nice hotel at night. All in mid winter. Lovely

As an English chappy, I have to say I loved Aberdeen when I went 30 years ago. I went on the hottest day for 10 years so they said and the icy blast coming off the North sea was chilling brrrr!

Hi scott yea for city centre night out i discovered stayed twice this year in travelodge on second vist when i spoke too them they said oh would you like a room on the quieter side very accommodating as for room big bright clean and cheap bang in city centte i be back glad you enjoyed vist too granite city like everywhere has problems but hopefully we all can overcome thanks happy travels

We were in Scotland last year but not Aberdeen. Having seen your videos, I think it adds a nice personal touch to add Sue!

Good to see you both enjoyed the trip. We always use Travelodges (as we've got our four legged friends with us) and rarely find a poor one. We used one of the ones in Aberdeen (together with Edinburgh, Inverness and Glasgow) last summer on our eight day adventure to the heritage railways.

@@Hino992 Each to their own, there's an extra charge for cleaning and they're not allowed in the eating areas where they exist.

This makes me want to go back there again. Premier Inn is actually very cheap, and had no idea those other places existed! Excellent eye opening video, thanks. 😊

I grew up in Aberdeen. Moved to OZ 13 years ago. So many fond memories of the Granite city 😍

Just a wee tip for parking. It's free up at the sea front, just avoid weekends and days when Aberdeen are playing at home. 10 minute walk to Castlegate, near the maritime museum. We don't see the sky very often here but if you come with a waterproof you'll be fine!

I'm surprised the Maritime Museum wasn't up on the list of tourist attractions - worth a visit. Also, next time you should visit "Old Aberdeen" where Aberdeen University is located

Molly Malones use to be the Other record shop. This was where all the punks use to congregate, listening to the new releases from the early punk groups

I went to Scotland for the first time last year. Went to Inverness. Predominantly to go to the famous bookshop, Leakeys. Plan on going again sometime, but this time we'll go to Aberdeen, then Edinburgh then Inverness again. So much I want to see.

Glad you enjoyed the trip Scott - the weather often makes all the difference! I've not been to the Duthie Pk in ages, but the old Winter Gdns used to have budgies in the roof boxes & fish in the ponds - budgies are gone & don't know about any fish now. I remember the house house/cactus areas. They also had a rose mound there as Aberdeen used to be the city of roses & Duthie Pk had a large rose mound. Maybe not the time of year for them! Maybe Seaton Pk/Old Abdn worth exploring for another time.

Ah, loved Aberdeen - glad you enjoyed it. Yes, Footdee was lovely! I stayed at the Residence/Marriott a couple of years ago and the rooms were really nice and wasn't too expensive (bearing in mind I usually stay in Travelodges or Premier Inns in this country).

Played in a band that did the BP Christmas dances among other shows around Scotland and the Tree Tops was one of the venues and surprised to see it demolished... by the way I'm still in a band playing gigs in Dundee, Edinburgh, Lanarkshire and Glasgow.

I loved Aberdeen when I went a few years ago, there used to be a fantastic Hilton by the beach I think it's gone now.. I didn't like the Spoons there but the O'Neill's is a good pub.

The Treetops Hotel closed in February 2020. A big downside of the internet is little updating, with stuff just left on. Like litter. You should have gone to the Art Gallery, Maritime Museum and Old Aberdeen. There is a big car park at the Trinity Centre where that Travelodge is. You could park for free at the beach or Duthie Park and walk into the city centre. Or catch a bus. But this is local knowledge so some research is needed before visiting anywhere. Not just Tripadvisor. Glad you got good weather. Butteries recommendation: local baker Murdoch Allan make Well Fired butteries and sell them in Asda at the beach. Local croissants and they don’t have butter in them.

I'll be in Aberdeen in the autumn. I don't suppose the weather will be this nice when I get there for the ferry, huh? Thanks for the helpful info - I'm looking forward to having a nice walk around Footdee after I come off the ferry.

I was in Aberdeen last year, flew up from Gatwick, LNER (1st class) back to London (then high speed from across the road back to Kent!). Highly recommend going to the Maritime Museum, facinating and very local. My wife has a bus pass, but English bus passes are not accepted in Scotland ... had to pay to use the busses 🥵. Went ot the beach, short ride away, looked great but considering it's 600+ miles north from home the water must be freezing! Didn't get to the gardens but will have to make another trip in the future.

I was in yorkshire last week and also could not use my bus pass, why can it not be a universal UK wide pass

Is the Station Hotel still there ?.used to be a British Rail Hotel , worked there and for the company for 12 years in the 60/70s ,

£12 a day to park. No wonder people no longer go into city centres.

I think we paid about a tenner in March for the pig out breakfast at the Travelodge St Marys St Edinburgh just the job to set you up for the day. Interesting video thanks 👍

Travelodge city litterly on union street. This is my local city, you could have told me you were coming up. Ask an aberdonian about union street and you'd get a completely different answer. A lot of shops and the market has been pulled down.

I went to Aberdeen in the 1970's. Cannot recall a more drab, uninspiring, less friendly place. Never been back since.

The winter gardens don’t look any different from dobbies garden centre.The beach is supposed to be a top tourist attraction but there hardly anybody there.

Sadly no, the city centre is worse than ever

Where you stayed is where the local gov put the homeless when there's no temporary housing, personal experience. The #2 Hotel is mainly used for hookups and folk who are too pissed to get home or just wanna hump a stranger 😆 There are a few local eateries that aren't foreign chains, too! Be like me going to Mexico and looking for a Weatherspoons 🤣

Don't forget to visit City of Aberdeen Distillery on your next visit (city centre) 😊 (disclaimer: 100% bias). 😅 Discovery Tour, Gin Tasting Masterclass and Gin School Experience...where you can distil your very own bottle of Scottish Gin. Open 6 days / week, 12-5:30pm. Aberdeen has a lot to offer, it's all around - we're still discovering loads of things available e.g. you can go on a boat and go dolphin 🐬 spotting! 📷 the city is Instagram paradise ❤

I work at Residence Inn in Aberdeen, technically yes you need to be a resident or a non-resident having breakfast with a resident. Though big thumbs up you came to the correct place. Next time, do come in for a coffee or better yet stay the night.

Checked withy supervisor, we do, do walk-ins at Residence Inn Aberdeen, you don't have to be with a resident (although most are). It has been busy lately, perhaps it was a busy day, and with a full house, not sure. Shame that, next time your in Aberdeen, pop round.

Premier Inn breakfasts - over priced, luke warm food and rubbery eggs. In my experience, wherever you stay with them.

Travelodge i hated the first time at Aberdeen because of the nose but the Premier Inn I’ve been back to in the last two years value for money can’t disagree with that

I have to disagree about Aberdeen being a clean city no graffiti etc. did you walk along Union Street blindfolded?! If you had done your homework looking for places of interest instead of finishing at the now flattened Treetops you could have paid Hazelhead Park a visit, lovely place with the memorial to the Piper Alpha victims and also the rose gardens, nice cafe too.

Now how about a follow up visit to Aberdeen in February 😮

Whoa! All this time there has been a Mrs Scott and we only just got to find out???😮
