A big ol' talk on the different difficulty settings 🙂 Way of the Hunter

I've gathered a lot of info on some key details on the three main difficulties (not much discussion on ranger) and figured I'd share as I know some people will find it interesting.

    Thanks for this. I play on Explorer, it meets my likes, and I like being able to track my animals (and all the other bizzo that Explorer gives) especially when my shot wasn't so good (anyone else have an issue when their .300 Win Mag gives them "...animal survived, you klutz"). I don't think I'll look to the harder difficulties. When I was a young feller I did a bit of hunting (red deer in NZ) and the whole start/stop crouching thing doesn't bother me; when scouting, I jog everywhere, and I might change behaviour if I spook a herd. Had success at that. Still culling my herds, Cottonwood and elsewhere, and want to fill my lodge with 5 *'s, got 5 at the moment. Several 4's and a bunch of placeholders but... snoring. Thanks, Bumble - I enjoy the posts.

    Yeah, a lot of people do too. I was convinced the game was designed as hunter difficulty as the balanced one. And I think it was when the game launched. But they did considerable changes to the easier difficulties and I understand why adventurer is the default. It's nice that they have difficulties to choose from 😀

    I do enjoy the challenge of hunting on ranger, but it definitely tests the patience haha can make it more rewarding bc its much more difficult to track and even find downed animals. Sometimes the lower difficulties do seem to be more realistic with animal behavior. And it definitely plays faster which I like as well

    For those that want ranger ecp with adventure animal sense, you can just turn off almost all the sense settings while in adventure difficulty settings, i believe

    For me, changing the difficulty around depending on what I want to do is a strange way to play a video game, but it seems to be working for me. The new hiker difficulty is a very chill experience.

    @@bumblewootI was playing on Hunter for the challenge. But you video has convinced me that adventurer is more than enough of a challenge for me. Im new to hunting and had only played a handful of hours on COTW before WOTH released. I dont want a “never held a controller” level of ease when playing. I just want it easy enough where I need to utilize my tools and strategies with a bit of wiggle room for making mistakes but learning from them. Not sure how I feel about being able to complete whiff a shot and not spooking a here though lol.

    Thanks for sharing. I am kind of new to the game and was playing adventurer. I decided to change to hunter and in most cases I spook the deers before I can eve see one (when in the woods). It feels a bit exaggerated. I thought it was just me. I saw a comment about the walk/crouch speed. I remember some games I've played had a neat feature: you would use the mouse wheel to fine tune the walk/crouch speed. That would be good in a game oike this.

    Think my woth path was very similar to yours. I am enjoying getting more done in limited time in default difficulty. Agree once you figure out the mechanics, i am comfortable in any setting but to get more done i like moving around a bit more, since experimenting with mechanics and herd management is not a quick process in their own

    Well said. I completely agree. I will be default mostly for the time being as it is the best balance imo. If they make changes to the difficulties in the future however, I will definitely check them out. And a Ranger hunt once in a while is always fun

    Well put sir. I don’t have the time to dedicate to ranger in the games current state. I want to for the realism, but I would need some more realistic features & equipment. I also found default difficulty to be the sweet spot. However I did find a way to add some ranger flavor to it. Simple, not using hunter sense to track blood. Big deal some might say but it was the cherry on top of the just right porridge. Personally I’d like to see the walking speed adjusted. In between regular and slow would be nice. Slow crouching should be default crouching imo. Prone is fine all around. Idk with those minor adjustments it would seem closer to real world to me. What I mean is I’ve never sprinted on a hunt. I’ve never trotted, and I’ve never, nor do I know anyone that could, crab walk over 10 football fields in a day. That’s enough of my two cents keep up the good work sir.

    I agree with everything there lol. The default walk is a jog it would seem. There doesn't seem to be good walk speed. I use normal crouch as a normal walk speed but then I cannot see as well. I think I will look at making my own custom difficulty. I've never liked the hunter sense shot location indicator. Thanks for the comment! 😀

    Hi there! Could you tell me if is it possible to know the approximate score of the animals without the hunter scene? Is the game made in a way that it could be possible for an expert real hunter?

  • @zindev

    @zindev

    Жыл бұрын

    I only had played a few hours and I think that the models of the animals are very similar. For example the antlers of two deers that I killed was like the same, but the score and genes was very different. (I am playing on Ranger mode)

  • @bumblewoot

    @bumblewoot

    Welcome to the game! After enough time, a player can probably get a half decent guess on the antlered animals. All of the other animals, I wouldn't think so. The game is based around the default difficulty 'adventurer' which uses huntersense. I love the idea of Ranger mode, but imo ranger difficulty is not fleshed out enough in those details. Many of the species are really difficult to tell their score to the point where it may not be possible. The game is improving all of the times, so hopefully it will get better for Rangers.

    @@bumblewoot I hope so! I am loving this game. So I think the best I can do is lower the difficulty and toggle only the binoculars sense.

  • @zindev

    I switched to Ranger mode again because even with only the binocular sense active, I am seeing sound bubbles, which breaks the immersion. I will ignore herd management and follow my own intuition and ethics. It's fun to hervest an animal to see its score like that.

    @@zindev I very much agree. Ranger mode has a great feeling of freedom to it. If I didn't do the videos I'd probably play Ranger. But it is difficult to figure out the game mechanics in Ranger

    If the mechanics were better and more information was provided to the player all of this crap wouldn’t even matter. WotH is a game I want to love but it’s a game that tests your patience more than anything.
