    ALWAYS a pleasure to watch another SKL episode. The segments on boat-building, and food prep (so glad for the Deb Potato shout-out), add much-enjoyed dimension to an already in-depth view of dinghy sailing. Looking forward to the next tack! Cheers this month from "somewhere in the South China Sea".

    Interesting and well edited as usual. I'm getting closer to seeing you on an actual RAID as I have just ordered a kit for a Welsford SCAMP from Dennis at the Little Woodend Boat Company, WA (the kit is coming from Qld). Dennis is quite knowledgeable and very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I have joined the LMCBA and their members, who have offered to help me, with their wealth of skills and knowledge will be a great help to this complete novice boat builder. So we may bump into each other at Rathmines sometime. BTW you're mostly responsible for my RAIDITIS. Tha weles!

    I have another tip if you dont have a cryo vac sealer, fill a bowl or a sink with water, put your meat or food in a zip lock back and place in the water to force all the air out and seal the bag without getting water in the bag. It sometimes works better than the cryo vac bags. I've used both methods.

    Hi Paul, I love the vaccum sealer. Sometimes you need a hearty meal you can warm up on the burner when a BBQ or fire isn't possible and packet stuff is just plain awful and full of rubbish. How long would something like a cottage pie last in one of those?, just wondering how long before it goes off. Have you tried meat or fish in these?

  • @SailingKateLouise

    @SailingKateLouise

    2 ай бұрын

    I'm vegetarian so the cottage pie was made with lentils, chickpeas and kidney beans. I'm on the boat now and had it last night, very good. If frozen they last on the fridge for about 12 months.In an ice box on the boat 4/5 days. They are already cooked so should be ok. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, cheers Paul

  • @bakerjmark
    @bakerjmark2 ай бұрын

    The vacuum bag sealer is a great idea for meals while cruising. Do you have to keep them refrigerated while out on the water or are they good for a couple of days at ambient temperature? I'm thinking of getting a pressure canner which is hot enough to preserve stews in jars that don't need to be refrigerated. But then you are taking glass along with you. Glass is more environmentally friendly but you have to ensure against breakage.

  • @SailingKateLouise

    @SailingKateLouise

    Hi I think they would be good for a few days if frozen to start with. It's the air that contains bacteria, sp should be good. My first try will be next. Thanks for leaving a comment and watching cheers Paul

  • @SailingKateLouise

    @SailingKateLouise

    2 ай бұрын

    Hi Robin, well this is the first time I've used it, so yes I'm keeping them in the freezer until needed but I will do some more research on how long they will keep unfrozen. I'm thinking it's air and moisture that spoil food, so if you remove one they should last a while. I'll have to check out some American prepper sites. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

  • @SailingKateLouise

    @SailingKateLouise

    Hi, Steve was posting regular photos of the build on Facebook. Well the cottage pie is vegetarian and so is the curry andI have frozen them as well as it's easier to vacuum seal if it's solid. I think they will easily last 4 days in a cool box. This is my first time but I'm sure there is lots more info on vacuum sealing on You Tube. Thanks again for watching, cheers Paul
